NJPW events will no longer be on AXS TV in 2020

December 27, 2019 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

New Japan Pro Wrestling will no longer be on AXS TV in 2020 as the company announced via its social media on Thursday.

In response to US fan queries

There are currently no plans for TV broadcast of NJPW events in 2020 (WK14 included) in the US.

Thank you for joining us on TV so far. We invite you to join @njpwworld for all the action in 2020, LIVE and in English!https://t.co/ldAvP7y3CH#njpw pic.twitter.com/C0gV2JuJ37

NJPW started on AXS TV in 2014 with older matches to introduce the audience to the talent and its style of wrestling.  Since then, the company has held events in the United States as well as Japan with AXS TV airing them with a short delay.  In some cases, like this past July’s start to the G-1 in Dallas, the event aired on the same day.

With the change in ownership this fall, it was clear that the new owners of AXS TV were going to make changes.  Impact Wrestling is taking over as the anchor pro wrestling show for the network.  Local MMA shows televised on AXS TV such as LFA were cancelled in exchange for Combates America.  New Japan Pro Wrestling gave American viewers a glimpse of wrestling that many have just heard about online.  It does not appear that there is a new network for NJPW at this point although many can still see its online platform.
