The Athletic’s Mike Coppinger states that Ruiz-Joshua 2 drew around 1.8 million viewers on DAZN. He indicated that Saturday’s event drew approximately 200,000 new subscribers.
The event featured the rematch between Anthony Joshua and Andy Ruiz with Joshua regaining his titles back from Ruiz. The location of Saudi Arabia was somewhat controversial and with the time difference, most in the U.S. saw the event on Saturday afternoon.
Sources: #RuizJoshua2 pulled in around 1.8 million viewers across DAZN’s nine markets, and approximately 200,000 new subscribers, with most of those sign-ups coming from the U.S.

There was a swing bout announced during the event which pushed back the time of the feature bout. While it may have annoyed a bulk of the viewers already tuned in, it appears that there was a big group of new subscribers tuning in for this event. It’s not known how many more subscribers signed up while the swing bout (which turned out to be a first round KO), but it seemed like pushing the additional time was gratuitous.
Payout Perspective:
If we are to do some back of the envelope math, DAZN’s new subscribers on Saturday for the fight generated another $400,000 for the company. At a time when the company is seeking to expand and borrow more money to do so, a revenue generator like the Clash of the Dunes helps bolster the business model.
