UFC 217 posts best prelims ratings of year despite preemption

November 7, 2017 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

The UFC 217 Prelims on FS1 drew 1.276M viewers on FS1 Saturday.  Despite starting on FS2 due to an overrun from the Oklahoma-Oklahoma St. game, the Prelims posted its best ratings this year.

The prelims were headlined by James Vick taking on Joe Duffy.  Vick one via stoppage with a second to spare in the third round.  The start of the prelims was pre-empted due to the football game and the first fight, Randy Brown-Mickey Gall, started on FS2.

The event drew 0.54 in the A18-49 demo according to Nielsen via ShowBuzz Daily.

The start of the prelims on FS2 drew posted 251,000 viewers and 0.12 in the A18-49 demo.  It switched over to FS1 at 8:35pm.

Also of note, the Post Fight Show on FS1 drew 321,000 viewers and the Pre-Fight Show on FS2 drew 162,000 viewers on FS2.  Also, the UFC weigh-ins on Friday drew 113,000 viewers on FS1.

Payout Perspective:

Big ratings despite being pre-empted at the beginning for football.  However, the Bedlam game was high-scoring, close and drew over 2.4 million viewers which was a great lead-in when the game ended.  The 1.276M viewers bodes well for the overall PPV buys for 217 as it is usually an indicator of interest.
