Showtime Boxing’s Andre Berto-Shawn Porter fight drew 468,000 network subscribers per ShowBuzz daily.
The fight, which Porter won via TKO in the 9th round sets up another big fight with Keith Thurman.
In addition to Berto-Porter, Showtime had two other fights prior to the main event. The network is on a roll this year and heads into a weekend where it will show Anthony Joshua-Wladimir Klitschko live on its network ahead of a replay on HBO.
Payout Perspective:
Showtime had its biggest ratings since 2015 earlier this year with a February fight featuring Adrien Broner. Berto-Porter was another good matchup and 468,000 network subscribers is pretty good considering Showtime has not produced huge ratings for its events and it was up against UFC, NHL and NBA playoffs. The CBS Sports Network shoulder programming of prior Berto, Porter fights may have helped with the marketing.

Nah Cruz, those are not good numbers, but then Porter and Berto alone are not good draws like a Thurman is. That number should have been 300K higher. Bad showing for Showtime and PBC. I get it that it was up against other sports, but still…they were not able to attract even the majority of boxing fans.
Joey Vagas says
A great cross road win for Porter. The man solidified his place among the best in the World. Must watch PBC fight on CBS or NBC can outdraw almost anything when he fights against another young hungry name. Big ratings everytime he fights and in the future.
Diego says
Mediocre ratings, but Porter-Thurman will be a network card and should do millions.
I have to grudgingly admit that PBC is putting on some very good cards this year. Unfortunately they eroded their fan base with too many crappy cards on too many networks for the past few years. Now they are struggling to get good ratings, and that means they will struggle to pay their talent, who have become accustomed to big checks for soft fights.

They seem to outdo any other combat sport outfit when they have cards on CBS/NBC/FOX though, its hard to argue with those 2-6m viewer cards they’ve had. Then there are those FS1 cards which are prospect/contender level that have little buzz. The Showtime cards are not so much of a concern to be honest, Showtime is outdoing HBO in boxing, and spending a lot of money on Haymon to use his fighters. PBC would do well to pursue a permanent contract with CBS, that seems to be where its consistent big numbers are…..Thurman-Porter did 3.94m and Thurman-Garcia did a SICK 5.1m….if anything, Keith Thurman has shown he has definite drawing power off that first PBC show in 2015.

Yet in reality, when viewership numbers are released PBC numbers are clearly inferior to the UFC on FOX, with double the overhead.
Also, Thurman-Garcia did 3.74m and Thurman-Porto did 3.1m. You posted the peak numbers. For comparison sake, the UFC has had 4 events on FOX beat those numbers and another did 3.7m. It really isn’t even close in comparing PBC to the UFC. Also, that’s not factoring in the key demo numbers where the UFC trounces PBC. Plus as I pointed out, the UFC events cost probably less than half of what the PBC events cost to produce.
Caramel City says
PBC has the most watched fight the last two years.
Maybe 3.
UFC is basically done.
Rousy is gone and McGregor wants to be a boxer.
Yea they look like they are doing good over there.
d says
“PBC has the most watched fight the last two years. Maybe 3”
Haha. Yet, PBC is still averaging less per show on the networks and cable, the UFC still holds the record for biggest rating, not to mention of course, the UFC does 13 ppvs per year typically and those are their biggest fights, unlike PBC putting out Thurman-Garcia which was one of the biggest boxing matchups of the year. Plus, the cost for that event is so much more than the UFC on FOX and those UFC tv shows bring in bigger gates.
Yeah, they must be done after breaking every record they had last year financially- grossing 700m. Haha. Delusions of grandeur.
McGregor doesn’t want to be a boxer. He wants a single boxing match. Even if he were to retire tomorrow, they still have bigger stars than boxing does. Jones and GSP can still do ppvs that do around 800k. Plus, it is so much easier to create a ppv star in mma than boxing- the latter of which isn’t getting their ppv back. Boxing in the US/Canada is dead.

TRIGGERED!

Wil gets frustrated when facts are presented to him. Hahaha.
Caramel City says
The UFC does not hold the record for biggest rating.
Mike Tyson did 40m viewers on FOX and thats not even half of what Ali did on TV
Get out of here. The UFC would have to becomes as popular as the NFL to ever come close to boxings achievements.
The UFC is very lackluster right now. Ive heard nothing about their PPVs, only what McGregor is doing.
Remember when people use to bring up their ppv buys. No one does that anymore because they are all so low.
GSP? Jones?
Will they even fight again? Are they even considered active?
You can say your active but if you dont fight then no.
d says
I was speaking in reference between FOX and PBC in this modern era. It’s also laughable that you would bring up Mike Tyson and act as if he wasn’t the biggest draw in the history of boxing who basically always fought on ppv, except that one time. The UFC uses their B cards on FOX. Plus, no the UFC would not have to become as popular as the NFL to come close to those numbers, because boxing certainly never has, not even close. They would just need a mega crossover star. No one in boxing since Tyson would be able to pull ratings like that, nowhere even close.
The UFC is lackluster right now? What does that say about boxing? The UFC has done 7 ppvs that have gone over 1m ppv buys since the last time a boxing ppv has. HBO’s boxing budget has been slashed to 20m annually, Bellator basically ko’d PBC from Spike. NBC also got rid of PBC.
GSP is fighting in the fall against Bisping, Jones will likely fight DC by the end of the year.
You are desperate.
