PBC on Fox 4 draws 1.76M viewers

February 26, 2017 by Jason Cruz 18 Comments

PBC on Fox drew 1.76 million viewers Saturday night per Sports TV Ratings.  It finished third out of three sports on the networks on Saturday night.

The NHL on NBC drew 2.02 million viewers and the NBA on ABC drew 2.34 million viewers Saturday night.  ABC drew the most in the adult 18-49 demo on Saturday night as it featured the Chicago Bulls-Cleveland Cavaliers in prime time.

The PBC event featured Deontay Wilder and Gerald Washington.  It drew a 0.5 in the adult 18-49 demo and a 2 share for its 2 hour time block.  Wilder KO’d Washington.

Last January, PBC on Fox drew 2.24 million viewers and finished behind Bulls-Cavs on ABC and US Figure Skating on NBC.

PBC on Fox this past July drew 1.45 million viewers.

Payout Perspective:

A rough night for PBC but it does improve from July’s showing.  PBC went up against two other sporting events on the networks and finished third.  Notably, UFC on Fox is doing much better than PBC events which have yet to catch on.

I was at the fight, ringside seats with some buddies from work, it was an excellent fight card and this coming from someone who was ringside for Tyson-Thomas back in 87. Good stuff. In terms of ratings, PBC on a saturday night should never do less than 2m viewers though. They still have not caught their advertising niche, I think DiBella just doesnt get it when it comes to promotion for the network market, which is totally different from promotion for HBO or Showtime, which deals with only its suscribers and to a greater extent its boxing base.

Not good. Wasn’t nearly the whole main event not part of the 2 hour time block Jason? It was in the 20 plus min. overtime segment.

      @Jess

They’ll be an adjustment as these are the “fast” overnights but even with the overrun it may get to 2M viewers but not much more.

The last minute replacement with an unknown could not have helped Wilder. Plus he’s been out for a while. Hopefully he fights once more this summer then a unification bout of some sort with Parker/Fury and then another unification with Joshua/Kiltschko. That would see the division pick up some momentum.

The PBC should be finished , you might not see the first UFC PPV fight but won’t hurt the top 4 fights

Wow. This is bad for even PBC standards. Why continue with the charade. They need to close shop. They’ve lost hundreds of millions of investor money.

This weekends fight I am predicting 3M-4M viewers. I may be low balling myself. Good Fight.

They just got a big contract with ESPN and mega fight this weekend on CBS. Gonna be big.

Hahaha. Mega Fights are on ppv, tv fights are for lower profiled fighters who can’t sell ppvs.

PBC has lost over a half of a billion dollars if not considerably more. This was a horribly failed venture and one fight (which revenue from the fight probably can’t even cover the purses), doesn’t change anything.

Show me some evidence of a big contract with ESPN. I’d love to see that.

They’ll likely average over 5m for Saturdays fight on CBS

I doubt it, but even if they did hit those marks for some reason, it still would be indicative of that one fight- with inflated purses and not the entirety of the “league”.

5M is way to high. You’re setting yourself up for disappointment. Neither guy is that popular.

my guess is its somewhere between 3-4m, if its less than that, there is a problem.

By the way, updated Nielsen ratings seem to suggest that the number is closer to 2.5m viewers, which isnt bad at all…i wonder if this includes DVR numbers…I was at the fight, but I also have my system set to record PBC, Showtime, HBO, and various other boxing series’ as well as Bellator.

The peak was allegedly 2.5m, not average. That’s terrible for network prime time.

They also did a .5 in the 18-49 which is also really bad considering that is the coveted demo they expected to break into.
