MMA Fighting reports that a disgruntled Jose Aldo is talking about taking the UFC to court if he is not released from his contract.
According to a Combate report, Aldo has talked to a lawyer about his legal possibilities. He has six fights left on his existing contract.
Aldo was angered that the company passed him over for a title shot against Conor McGregor at UFC 205. Instead, the UFC chose Eddie Alvarez as the opponent for the Featherweight Champion. McGregor has not defended the title since he defeated Aldo this past December.
Dana White indicated that he would speak to Aldo and his team and would not terminate the contract.
Payout Perspective:
The prospects of Aldo suing the UFC to get out of his contract are probably slim. Rather, the talk of lawsuit is posturing so that White and the UFC grant Aldo some concession. Whether it is monetary or he gets to pick his next fight and opponent, I would suspect that the UFC would be willing to negotiate with Aldo rather than deal with another lawsuit.

i really dont understand aldos reasoning, look i like aldo , he should be very thankfull , he got to fight conor, he made more for that fight than his whole career combined, aldo should just fight and collect the check, no one else in that division would beat him plus they could set up aldo vs pettis which may draw decent and is a fight i would like to see,

turd – you make some good points. From Aldo’s point of view, I think he would love to fight Pettis at 145. Aldo’s complaint is that he’s only considered the “interim” champion (whatever the hell that means) and he either wants to be considered the full champion and defend the belt at 145 or fight Conor at 145 for the chance to be the full champion. He’s in limbo right now where he’s sort of but not really the champion and the guy who is the actual champion has fought twice at 170 and is now fighting for a belt at 155. Aldo’s point is that Conor needs to either defend or vacate the 145 belt.

I don’t think Aldo has a point. I find it very strange he wanted to fight Conor in November but said he needed more time to fight The other contenders. That doesn’t make sense and sounds like he just wanted to jump in and just take his loss against Conor for a big payday with not intentions of winning. He was wanting to go in unprepared because of the money and at the same time wants people to take him serious! Come on!
Diego says
Brain,
Aldo wants to lose to Conor? Do you really believe that? You think a guy like Aldo is going to take a fight with no intention of winning? That’s absurd.
Yes, I take Aldo seriously. He’s a professional athlete who has been fighting at the top of the elite level for a long time. I think he’s been living with the Conor loss and wants his revenge. This is most likely a pressure tactic to force the UFC to either give him the rematch or to strip Conor of the belt.
