The PPV replay of the Terrence Crawford-Viktor Postol fight drew 378,000 HBO subscribers per Sports TV Ratings.
The event, which aired from 10:15-11:17pm ET also drew 178,000 viewers in the adult 18-49 demo. Showtime Boxing drew 480,000 viewers and 201,000 in the adult 18-49 demo.
Not a good showing considering Crawford drew 982,000a live event fe this past February in a defeat of Hank Lundy. The February 2016 event was a live event. Prior to that Crawford on HBO drew 1.07M subscribers in an October 2015 fight with Dierry Jean.
Payout Perspective:
Perhaps the UFC may have taken away some viewers from Saturday’s replay or no one was interested in a fight that Crawford dominated. The rating does not bode well for the PPV buy rate. With the news that Manny Pacquiao has bypassed Crawford as an opponent for his return, Crawford will have to forge his own name to become a PPV star.

338k is a good number for first ppv….postol is unknown so crawford is gaining momentum, thought this card would only do a 100k as arum was forced to make it into ppv by hbo budget…
tops E says
Pacman.vs morales 1 got 350k and those guys were more.popular than crawford…both known boxers….postol is really not known at all…
E TOPS says
TOP E, I think you are confusing the ppv buyrate to the TV RATINGS FOR HBO.
Wil says
Arum was a fool to make that ppv, neither man is a PPV draw and Crawford will only become one if he: A., shows more killer instinct and actually engages his opponents rather than safely outbox them, and B., adds some personality to his entertainment value.
turd says
hey wil from what i understand h.b.o refused to air it, in fact h.b.o has slashed there
boxing budget to a mere 25 million per year. thats huge. i cant believe that
isnt being reported more
Cutch says
It used to be $90 odd lllpmillion in 1999 but that was around the same time they started making massive TV Series with huge budgets from The Sopranos to Game of Thrones.
You would get De La Hoya fights if they weren’t PPV worthy and its been dropping for a while. Lewis-Klitsko in 2003 was on HBO but you won’t see fights like that for free again, unless PBC manage to pull out a huge TV deal that pays 100 million at least a year.
tops E says
Oh yeah my mistake its a replay…its really weak then hahaha…crawford with all his talent speed, power, ran more than mayweather in this fight….arum should focus on lomachenko until crawford changes his run and run style.boring as hell
tops E says
Pac vs vargas and marquez vs crawford? In nov?
turd says
the pac vs vargas fight will not sell well at all, manny has lost his brains and most of his money he i fighting cause he is broke most of his floyd purse went to paying taxes he owed
tops E says
Lol pacman is now a senator…he only said.he would retire to get votes….tax issues is all about politics now that the new president in the philippines is friend of his.
he is given a huge cut on tax to be paid, rematch with floyd will happen and people would still watch..pac vs vargas would be entertaining as they are both offensive fighters
turd says
tops the new president has nothing to do with that, he owed taxes in the us. he blows through money as fast as he gets it, he is fightiing cause he is broke and that pac vs vargas fight wont sell shit
Chris says
LOL Tops E thinking thats a PPV number and saying its a good number for a first PPV.
Wonder what he thinks about what the actual PPv number which is rumored to be 50k buys. yeah you read that right, 50k buys is all the PPV is said to have done.
They couldnt even hit 75k which is what they were hoping to hit to break even.
So much for America’s next boxing superstar.
tops E says
Hahahaha…crying chris is back…try reading…i acknowledge my mistake 10:03 reply hahahaha
Caramel City says
Actually turd boy HBO wanted it it to be a ppv due to expenses.
Crawford made $1.3m and Postol $675k.
turd says
so whats your point caramel , i said that above that hbo refused to air it . the fight lost money bob arum even said so
Caramel City says
They didn’t refuse to air it, they just didn’t have the expenses for it to air without a ppv cost.
You are trying to imply that they refused to air it because of your “boxing is dying” fallacy.
In actuality they just couldn’t afford it.
Leo Riskalla says
Postol, at 5-foot-11, is two inches taller and has an inch-and-a-half reach advantage. Crawford mixes power, speed and quickness, along with instinct that allows him to switch back and forth from southpaw to orthodox, sometimes in the same round.
