The HBO replay of Canelo Alvarez-Amir Khan drew 767,000 subscribers on Saturday night per Sports TV Ratings.
The replay, which aired from 10-10:44pm ET, on ESPN drew 339,000 subscribers in the 18-49 adult demo. Dan Rafael of ESPN added that Nielsen reports the peak to be slightly over 1 million viewers right around the time that the KO took place in Round 6.
Notably, Alvarez-Khan occurred after the UFC Prelims went off the air on FS1.
Payout Perspective:
Notably, the Alvarez-Cotto replay drew 901,000 HBO subscribers. However, that replay this past November was aided by a live Heavyweight title fight between Wladimir Klitschko and Tyson Fury. The Alvarez-Khan replay was without a live fight. The spike for the KO is impressive and it goes to 1) the popularity of knockouts and 2) the popularity of Alvarez. Maybe one outweighs the other, but I’m sure the comments section will hash this out.

Good numbers for a replay, definitely a good way to lead into the GGG fight with both of them getting knockout wins in their fights. Purse bid is this week so expect a september fight between canelo and GGG.
Joey Garcia says
First real test for the Russian. I like Canelo a lot here. GGG gets took in this matchup!
The Greatest says
Multiple sources confirming Canelo-Khan did 600k, possibly a little more.
1M+ peak viewers is great for a replay.
GGG-Wade peaked at 1.38M.
Canelos next fight will sell very well. Guys a star.
Wil says
GGG is going to break the hearts of the Canelo fans, cinnamon wont see the 9th round.

“Multiple sources confirming Canelo-Khan did 600k, possibly a little more.”
Nearly everyone now reporting Canelo-Khan did 460k, only one’s disputing are coming from the promotion.
“Canelos next fight will sell very well. Guys a star.”
Unless he fights GGG, it will be another golden turd.
Cutch says
Bellator did similar numbers to the UFC, slightly less and the UFC was in the top 100 for Saturday this replay and the Bellator weren’t. That probably meant the UFC did better than both in the 18-49 demographic.
Todd G. says
How are those good ratings?
Pacquiao-Bradley delayed broadcast had almost identical viewership (750K average) and that was described as mediocre.
The Greatest says
Steve Kim to ESPN to Ring tv have all said Canelo-Khan did 600k from their own sources.
Lole is the only one claiming 460k, and like always Lole was wrong.
Cutch says
They are going off the promoters word, why doesn’t HBO confirm it? The number has been as low as 300,000 by certain people, so not everyone is saying 600,000
Kevin Iole is the only one who broke the numbers Down, so unless Golden Boy had 120,000 online buyers which seems very unlikely, Iole’s is the only one not just going off a promoters word.
The Greatest says
So all these guys are going off the promoters word yet Lole has the inside scoop?
No.
Lole was wrong just like last time.
Lole is laughed at in the boxing community.
Yahoo sports is a joke
Fight Fan says
Greatest, yahoo is in cahoots with ufc, they always write fluff pieces and advertise to buy the ppv through them.
Cutch says
It’s a conspiracy, or you know the UFC advertised their shows there, nothing stopping any Boxing promoter doing the same and while I have no screen shots, I’m guessing a few Boxing PPVs were advertised there
145 Direct
60 K Dish
230 Cable
Kevin Iole gave his sources, none of the others did
The Greatest says
Not all the numbers where in. You think if you had the numbers that all these other journalists would simply just say no he’s wrong and go off the word of the promoter? think about it.
Lole is a ufc shrill. No one in boxing listens to him
d says
“Steve Kim to ESPN to Ring tv have all said Canelo-Khan did 600k from their own sources.
Lole is the only one claiming 460k, and like always Lole was wrong.”
Nope, multiple sources were claiming it went significantly under 500k. The initial reports were actually lower with several boxing insiders claiming it did in the 300k range. This was reported on bad left hook and bloody elbow.
Ring tv sources are Golden Boy. Hahaha.
“So all these guys are going off the promoters word yet Lole has the inside scoop?”
No, several other journalists have reported the opposite of what GB disclosed.
“Lole was wrong just like last time.”
Iole is correct. He presented actual numbers. GB just lied. There is no L at the beginning of his name also, genius.
“Lole is laughed at in the boxing community.”
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
He’s was inducted into the Nevada boxing hall of fame! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Do you ever research anything?
“Not all the numbers where in. ”
According to GB, they were. That was their initial report. Unless you were talking about Iole, who stands firm at his number as we speak.
“Lole is a ufc shrill. No one in boxing listens to him”
He’s covered boxing for over 30 years, it seems they do.
Cutch says
Kevin Iole has been covering Boxing for decades, they didn’t say he was wrong, they just said it did 600k, which they got from Golden Boy.
I can’t be bothered with this it did just below Floyd- Pacquiou, so there, you win Boxing beat MMAnow go rejoice, after all we get a PPV% cut and now you’re Rich.
The Greatest says
Even more sources saying 600k.
So thats settled.
d says
1 source saying 600k, multiple saying 460k or less.
When your only source is the promoter, you don’t have a source.
Wil says
by the way, that is impressive numbers for a replay. I didnt expect that. Good stuff. Makes you wonder how many viewers it would have had if it was on regular HBO.
