Frank Mir was notified of a potential Anti-Doping Policy violation related to an in-competition sample collected the day of his fight against Mark Hunt March 20th in Brisbane, Australia.
The UFC released a basic statement acknowledging it knows of the possible violation but also indicated that all athletes are afforded due process.
Frank Mir released his own statement indicating that he has never taken PEDs.
You may recall last September Mir had an issue with USADA clearance when he requested a TUE for Aderall. Since the event was in Australia, could he have had another conflict with USADA over Adderall?
Fighters flagged by USADA under anti-doping program include Mirko Cro-Cop, Gleison Tibau, Yoel Romero, Felipe Oliveri and Abdul-Kerim Edilov.
Payout Perspective:
Mir is the latest fighter to be flagged by USADA. Based on his statement, it appears he will appeal the finding. It will be an interesting process if he goes through with it. He really has nothing to lose since if he accepts the penalty the 36-year old will have to serve a 2 year ban. Recently, Yoel Romero settled his alleged positive finding with USADA and need only serve a 6-month ban.

How is that possible? He looked like a fat slob. His belly was hanging out farther than I’ve ever seen it.
Fight Fan says
Mir is a bum, hopefully they drop the hammer on him. No sympathy for PED users in combat sports.
d says
Not that I disagree if he in fact cheated(which I can’t see being true based on video footage), but did you feel the same way about Mosley, Holyfield, Toney, Mayorga, Vitali Klitschko, Vargas, Jones, Lamont Peterson, Tarver, etc?

Not everyone is going to be body beautiful, and when you raise testosterone levels, some can be converted to estrogen as well. And to be honest, heavyweights dont have to make weight so his diet may not have been the best and his training may have been light on cardio.
d says
Of course not everyone is going to look the same, but Mir has looked significantly different in the past to the point where he physically looked the worst I’ve ever seen him in that fight. When you take peds, you are not building fat. There are a variety of different class peds, none I’ve ever heard of make you more out of shape when you are cycling or using. They gain fat when they are off of the peds.
Also, why would his training be light on anything if he was doping? That makes no sense.

Ok d 🙂

i think mir was on trt as well
from what i understand when you go on trt you have to stay on it forever.
of course trt is banned. so he basically has no tes production, and now with out of competition testing. he can do any roids like before
Wil says
Are you sure TRT is banned? As I understood it, as long as testosterone levels were in “normal” range, it was allowed. I would imagine most of the guys in the mid to late 30s, certainly in their 40s, who are still competing in sports have dabbled in the TRT since normal levels decrease on average starting in early 30s, some even in late 20s
d says
Wil, TRT is absolutely banned-Nevada banned it as did the UFC.
