UFC Fight Night 85 draws 1.149M, Prelims 766K

March 22, 2016 by Jason Cruz 6 Comments

UFC Fight Night 85 drew an average rating of 1.149M viewers on FS1 Saturday night.  The UFC Prelims which preceded the main card drew 776,000 viewers.

Sports TV Ratings reports that UFC Fight Night 85 drew 1.149M viewers in the 10-1:00am ET time slot on Saturday Night.  The NCAA Basketball game between UNC and Providence on TBS which aired during the UFC main card drew the highest viewership for a sports cable show Saturday night with over 4 million viewers.

The Prelims which aired from 8-10pm ET on FS1 drew 766,000 viewers.

Payout Perspective:

The ratings are very good considering it went up against the NCAA Tournament and Warriors-Spurs on ABC Saturday night.  Aside from Mir-Hunt, there were not many names on this card which took place in Brisbane, Australia.  Yet, the 1.149 million viewers is a nice increase from UFC Fight Night 83 (recall 84 was Fight Pass only) which featured Cowboy Cerrone.  Of course, that event was on a Sunday night

Decent numbers but not great. Could have been better. Rizin drew about 4 as many viewers in Japan. Is this the best the UFC can do? Boxing events like Mathysse-Provodnykov and Crawford-Dulorme drew the same number of viewers last year like the UFC 85.

So good ratings. But not great. You’d expect more from a company that claims to be the best.

After the Ronda and Mc hypetrains got derailed, no one’s caring too much about the UFC. Jones will probably keep 700-800k interested.

Get ready for Rizin to mop the floor with the UFC! It will draw at least 5 million viewers world-wide next month.

Combat sports in general are bigger in Japan…boxing, mma, kickboxing, sumo, really the only other big sport they have is baseball. the USA has so many…football, baseball, basketball, hockey, tennis, nascar, figure skating, golf, boxing, mma, and then some of those i named have college versions that are just as popular. Those are good numbers for the UFC, and it was a decent card, wasnt too many boring moments on that night.

UFC’s keeping up the consistent theme of very good ratings.

Pretty funny when the boxing fans attempt to compare major fights on HBO to low profile FS1 shows with washed up fighters.

    Delusions of grandeur.

Matthysse-Provodinikov did 1.25M and peaked at 1.4M on HBO.
Those aren’t the stars of boxing.

1.25m is not an average hbo rating.

The Mir-Hunt fight was a low profile fs1 show involving two headliners that are washed up and no where near title contention. Ridiculous analogy.
