Premier Boxing Champions drew 2.24 million viewers on Fox Saturday night according to Television By Numbers. It also received a 0.7 rating in the adult 18-49 demo and a 3 share.
Although PBC finished last in terms of overall average viewers for its 8-10pm ET time slot, it was first in Adult 18-49 rating and share for at least the first half hour (8-8:30pm). It was soon replaced by the NBA game featuring Chicago and Cleveland. Notably, a rerun of NCIS: Los Angeles on CBS drew 4.85 million viewers (8-9pm) and the NBA Saturday Primetime game between Chicago and Cleveland drew 3.69 million viewers with a 1.4 rating for adults 18-49 and a 5 share. Also of note, U.S. Figure Skating on NBC drew 3.69 million viewers from 8-11pm.
PBC on Fox featured Danny Garcia versus Robert Guerrero in an entertaining 12 round fight which Garcia won.
Payout Perspective:
In comparison, UFC on Fox 17 this past December drew 2.28M viewers. This appears the average for a live combat sporting events for this time slot. Obviously, the NBA game during prime time featuring LeBron James was stiff competition for a boxing event with boxers you would only know if you followed the sport.
Hahaha. The UFC on FS1 just basically tied this overall and was much better in the 18-49 demo. Hayman will never be able to borrow another dime from anyone in his life after this disaster.
On a side note, how the hell does figure skating pull in those type of ratings?
How many channels has garcia been on? Exposure more exposure and he won….so the winner of thurman vs porter would fight for him next? or add amir khan kell brook in the mix for the welterweight unified champ….good for pbc more name fighters and future stars hahahaha

Boxers did not have that kind of exposure like thurman and garcia,2 to 3 years they would start making it into big money territory…if you see pacmans career before he came to the u.s. he was already a star in the philippines,he was more exciting back then but did not have the opportunity back then to introduce him to network t.v. In the u.s. He could have been bigger star earlier….now this new pbc boxers specially the new ones like spence would be given that
First off these aren’t bad numbers. 2nd I live in the Northeast and I had to stream the fight because of the massive snow storm. Pretty much everybody in the northeast couldn’t watch the fight because of the storm. That could easily account for 500,000 more viewers if not more.

The numbers are right on par with what the UFC does, and these numbers arent final.
Its what I expected, Garcia vs Amir Khan II or winner of Thurman-Porter would do 3m+ on FOX I believe.
Get Guerrero off the primetime stations.
D you also got to figure that if FOX became PBCs main station, then they would get almost all of the big fights, instead of things being scattered around.
By the way, PBC isnt being marketed for the Thurman-Porter fight. Its being called “Showtime Boxing on CBS”.

Power outages were not a major issue. Garcia is from Philly which is clearly his biggest market and they certainly weren’t an issue there. The ratings were low because boxing is heading for an all time low in terms of interest.
The numbers were right on par with what the UFC did….. ON CABLE LAST WEEK!! HAHAHA!!! The UFC on FOX fight’s averages are better in general plus are considerably better in the 18-49 demo which boxing desperately needs.
It was never what you expected, your predictions are always off, and maybe you can explain to me how they can only do 3m + ratings (even though they won’t) and sustain their business model? These events cost too much money for them just for 3m viewers in return, not to mention low ratings compared to the UFC in the 18-49 demo.
The FOX being PBC’s main station is meaningless if we are talking about big fights. People knew these two were fighting Saturday night.

It’s a good result, but D is correct that the UFC did better on FS1. This is, however, about the same ratings that the recent UFC on Fox cards have done. It’s going to come down to the business model – how much is the promotion pulling in vs. how much it is paying out. I think in the UFC has the edge there. Time will tell.

Only now he’s making excuses for PBC. I live in New York and not only did we have power, but the everything was closed so people stayed home with nothing to do on Saturday night rather than going out. That’s the only reason I watched the fight live – otherwise I would have DVRd it. I think the same is true for folks in Philly but I don’t know for sure. If anything that should give the numbers a boost since that’s Garcia’s fan base.

Those are shot ratings considering the entire East Coast was snowed in and there should have been way more people watching TV. Hell NY had a travel ban. This give them a much better rating than they typically would have got.

A key point to make- even though the numbers overall are similar recently, you have to take into consideration that the UFC outdraws PBC in the 18-49 demo which was the focus point for PBC’s business model. PBC’s average viewer I’m pretty sure is in their 50s, it is obviously much younger for UFC fights.
Also, the UFC has far less overhead considering the inflated PBC purses and high production costs.
I’m fairly certain PBC was funded for 2 years by Waddell and Reed. They are 10.5 months into that deal and I can’t imagine a scenario where they are extended. They would have to bring in a tv rights deal that is triple the UFC’s with worse ratings in the 18-49 and basically equal ratings overall with arguably bigger names fighting on their cards considering the UFC has their biggest fighters typically spread out through their ppvs unlike boxing. In other words, someone who drew like Garcia would be fighting on ppv if they were in the UFC.

You don’t have to know their financials. Knowing only tells us how long they have. We don’t need that info to know they are losing money and what lies ahead. It’s common sense. We know what TV pays for and what demo they look for. We know the fighters cost way more.
With the numbers they get they can get a TV deal. But it won’t be more than the UFC deal and to sustain their boxer salary they have to have way more money. Or they have to start cutting salary and watering down cards which will decrease ratings and put their TV deal at risk or atleast get them a much smaller deal when they renegotiate.
It wasn’t power outages that stopped people from seeing the fight. There was non stop weather coverage which played over the fight. “A massive snowstorm raged through the northeast prompting local Fox affiliates to stick with live storm coverage in lieu of carrying the live boxing feed”.
So showtime or cbs pays pbc if its titled showtime boxing?
Fight Fan, back up what claims? What specifically are you looking for? The purses from the cards are released to the athletic commissions, so we already know what they are. The NBC deal cost PBC 20m per year in just time-buy slots. That means 1m per card just with NBC, which doesn’t include all the other channels they’ve done time-buys with. We already know they burned through 200M. The gate numbers that have been released are horrible and the numbers they are not releasing the money on, the attendance is pathetic. According to investors, they were not cheap when it came to production costs either- despite what people think- PBC is footing some of the production costs for the fights.
Just because you are oblivious to the numbers, doesn’t mean I am misinformed. This is a flawed business model and literally can’t succeed unless they somehow miraculously, change courses and have a major upward ratings shift. If anything though, the numbers are trending downward.

Solid ratings, numbers will go up with the overtime. mma fans always complain about pacing but they dont realize all these events want the show to run over cause it helps ratings.
When a fight ends quickly it hurts them, having an event like this and other UFC events that go over 25 minutes is great.
So with that overtime that should bump numbers up to 2.8 mill which is a good number.
FOX would be smart to make its channel the home for combat sports.

Cross promotion would never happen. The UFC doesn’t need PBC what so ever, the reverse however I could see as a necessity.
