Reebok’s latest mistake confuses Aldo-Spider

December 6, 2015 by Jason Cruz 4 Comments

Reebok, the official clothier of the UFC, made another faux pas last week with an “Anderson Aldo” shirt in runup to UFC 194.  It once again is a black mark on the company in its first year in partnership with the UFC.

According to MMA Fighting, Reebok says the error is the result of a mistake made at a single manufacturing location.  “Unfortunately, an error was made at one of our printing facilities,” said a Reebok rep.

The latest gaffe is just one of many mistakes the company has made since becoming the company’s official clothing sponsor earlier this year.  Prior to this latest problem, it made multiple misspellings with fighter jerseys and excluded northern Ireland from a shirt which promoted UFC Fight Night 76 in Dublin, Ireland.

While the pay structure from the Reebok deal may not be the creation of the sportswear company, its misspellings are its problems.  Something that the company has tried to explain.

Payout Perspective:

Frankly, is anyone surprised with the latest mistake by Reebok?  It shows a lack of knowledge of the product and a problem with its quality control.  Reebok should know that it has come under fire for its initial mistakes with fight jerseys and is being criticized for its mistakes.  This is one of those issues where the company must know its audience.  Most fans are not happy with how the UFC did away with fight sponsors to the financial detriment of many fighters.

I have taken up for Reebok. But there is no excuse for this. Early on they got heat because idiots fans do not understand business and how to built a sport. So spinsorships got blamed on Reebok. When Reebok messed up the names at the unveiling. It was their fault. But I give them a pass. Mistakes happen. But now there is no excuse! After the first mistake they should have been all over this and inspecting everything. You can’t let the same mistake happen agains and show everyone not only are you irresponsible and careless. But you didn’t learn anything from your mistakes. Inexcusable!

I love the model the UFC is using with Reebok. At some point another brand will take their place. I think the only mistake the UFC has made is including all the fighters in the deal. The deal should have been main card fighters only. While undercard fighters have its own major sponsor or are allowed to get their own sponsors. They compensation from the Reebok deal is just spread out to thin. Cutting out the undercard fighters would allow the UFC to almost double the money the main card fighters are getting. Undercard fighters could really benefit because they could get their own sponsors with very few fighters able to get them. So they would be in high demand and make well above the 2500-5000 per fight they get from Reebok.
