Sports Media Watch reports that PBC on NBC Saturday drew a 1.6 overnight rating. The rating is down from the network’s two previous PBC primetime cards.
Although no actual viewership numbers have been posted, Television By Numbers reported that the 3 hour time block from 8-11pm on NBC drew just 1.96 million viewers and an 0.5 rating for the 18-49 demo. Boxing (in addition to The Carmichael Show) in that 3 hour block, was last in network ratings for Saturday night. Notably two college football game ran on Fox and ABC during PBC.
SMW also notes that the 1.6 overnight rating is the lowest ever for the UFC on Fox in its 16 telecasts.
Payout Perspective:
We will try to gather more specific information on the NBC ratings later this week but it appears that PBC did not have a good outing Saturday night. It did not help that there were two games at the same time. However, it also lost out to CBS in overall viewership and in the 18-49 demo which aired a rerun of Limitless and 48 hours. Sure, boxing skews older but these ratings can be seen as concerning. Perhaps it was a case of bad luck to run up against 2 football games, but this was to be the coming out party for America’s next best heavyweight – Deontay Wilder.

Wilder against a familiar name….even against an old shannon briggs would have been better than this lepaun guy…
The Greatest says
Why not wait the extra few hours and post the actual ratings.
For one it was already known since about 12pm Sunday that the last hour of the telecast did 2.36mil viewers, so usually the peak goes up by 400k, generally, so it probably peaked around 2.6-2.8mil viewers, which is good.
Diego says
It looks like it averaged around 2 million viewers. That’s about as good as can be expected for boxing or MMA with that type of matchup – i.e. a young, untested champion in a cream-puff fight against a nobody. I thought it would do worse.
Boxing and MMA will only rarely beat more mainstream sports on network TV. This wasn’t the fight that was going to do that.
Trollexander says
Actually, MMA can barely draw 2 million viewers these days. You need to hype a fight to death to get 2 million viewers to watch two people spending half of the time attempting failed takedowns and trying to outbox each other.
The fans are just bored. After all the aggressive over-advertising, people expect to see some action but all they get is a pillow fight.
With boxing, what you see is what you get. But mma nowadays just boils down to talk talk talk and little to almost no action whatsoever.
Gus vs Cornier will probably draw a bit over 1,5 million viewers. That’s my estimation, which will probably be the best ratings the UFC can hope for under the current circumstances. I’m hoping Fedor will revive old-school MMA. If he too disappoints, I think I’ll stop caring about MMA altogether.

Division II football outdraws PBC. This is an unsustainable business. At this point the only question is when will the hedgefund pull their money.
The Greatest says
Division III football outdraws the UFC. This is a dying company.
d says
Division III football doesn’t outdraw the UFC, but Division II football literally does outdraw PBC at times. Haha.

Trollexander who has used about 20 aliases on here and doesn’t get banned, isn’t a very bright individual. He lies about figures and then when called out on them switches to his next delusional argument.
“With boxing, what you see is what you get.”
Tell that to literally everyone who watched Mayweather-Pacquaio the alleged fight of the century. There is almost never a ko in a major boxing match on a championship level. It is literally the exact opposite in mma.
Not to mention all of the nonsense hype the banner promoters throw out there for boring boxers.
“Gus vs Cornier will probably draw a bit over 1,5 million viewers. That’s my estimation, which will probably be the best ratings the UFC can hope for under the current circumstances. I’m hoping Fedor will revive old-school MMA. If he too disappoints, I think I’ll stop caring about MMA altogether.”
You aren’t even aware of how stupid you are.
Gus-Cormier is a ppv card. Not a tv show. And no one would expect that to do 1.5m buys. Your comments about Fedor reiterate my point about you being an idiot.
The Greatest says
If division II outdraws PBC then its outdrawing the UFC as well, you moron.
d says
Haha. Everyone knows PBC doesn’t even outdraw Bellator, and that you are the biggest idiot alive.
The Greatest says
Can you name me the most watched event this year? Give you a hint, its not MMA.
D talks as if the UFC pulls 10m a show.
The UFC and PBC get around the same numbers.
If you expand it to boxing vs mma then boxing gets better numbers and is also the most watched combat sport in the world.
Trollander says
Oh my, I used the word “Troll” in my nickname..and d figured out I’m the troll! Damn it d! You outsmarted me there d! I ain’t messing with you anymore!!!!
I’m sorry for forgetting that Gus vs Dan was a PPV card. I have more important stuff to remember than the details of a hyped fight that’s probably gonna be as exciting as a rerun of The Titanic. *yawn*
Anyway, how did UFC’s Fight Night in Japan do? Another new ticket sales low. HA HA HA
Contrary to your delusional fanboyism, boxing sells a lot more than today’s mma. Figures and numbers were posted on official reliable news websites. At this point you’re arguing with the facts. If the UFC keeps putting out mediocre fights, people will forget about MMA as fast as they’re forgetting about TUF.
d says
The UFC is dominating. PBC draws lower ratings than Bellator. Why is this even a debate? Oh yeah, because some delusional mutant keeps trying to lie about PBC’s ratings.
The Greatest says
Why is this even a debate? Because PBC and UFC had shows on at the same time and PBC almost tripled their ratings.
d says
Na, the UFC dominates PBC. PBC can’t even outdraw WSOF when they are on the same channel. Haha.
TrollsRoyce says
Is that why the PBC drew almost 2 million viewers? When was the last time any UFC event drew as many viewers? UFC’s fight night in Japan had another ticket sales low and a disappointing viewership. The UFC’s PPV buys for March and April combined were worse than those of the WSOF! If it weren’t for all the promotional circus and fanboyism, the UFC wouldn’t even exist anymore.
The UFC is now involved in another lawsuit. That’s 3 lawsuits so far. Most of the news about the UFC has almost nothing to do with the sport. I think that says it all.
Nutthuggers just can’t defend the UFC without attacking someone else. Typical..
Chris says
Just curious the Greatest what shows are you talking about being on the same time and PBC doing 3x the ratings?
I assume you are talking cable vs cable shows and not network tv vs cable cause if you arent thats pretty fucking dumb.
Reality is you can only compare network vs network and cable vs cable.
So Compare PBC on NBC to UFC on Fox and compare PBC on Spike to UFC on FS1.
Ask Jason for the numbers breakdown and see who is actually doing better, or dont cause its UFC and that wont serve your agenda.
Chris says
Is this Troll dude serious or just another name for one of the many boxing trolls on this site?
When was the last time UFC drew 2 mill? Uh I dont know, every single Fox card they’ve ever done, 16 of them all have done over 2 mill.
I’ll ask you think, when was the last time boxing on cable TV did 3 mil viewers like UFC on FS1 McGregor/Siver did THIS YEAR?
