PBC on ESPN this past Saturday drew 1.073 million viewers according to Sports TV Ratings. The event, which went from 9-10:57pm ET featured Danny Garcia taking on Paulie Malignaggi.
Garcia defeated Paulie with a 9th round TKO in a fight that was dominated by the Philly fighter. The first fight of the night was short-lived but had an exciting first round between Sergio Mora and Daniel Jacobs. Both were knocked down in round 1. Mora suffered a fractured ankle in the second round and could not continue.
It’s the second event on ESPN and outdrew the debut (which garnered 800,000 viewers) two weeks ago.
Payout Perspective:
Overall, the ratings are a vast improvement from the Friday Night Fight telecasts which only averaged 381,000 viewers. This past Saturday’s fight was much better than two weeks prior. Still, Garcia and Paulie are well-known fighters and ESPN promoted the event pretty well. Yet, it eeked over 1 million viewers. Couple that with the fact the UFC Prelims topped cable sports TV Saturday night with 1.3 million viewers and the high ratings might also be seen as a disappointment.
Diego says
FNF did 1/3rd of these ratings, and cost 1/20th to put together. Again, I don’t see how PBC plans to make money with these results. Garcia and Paulie don’t fight for peanuts. Neither does Jacobs. Maybe next time Garcia won’t fight a handpicked opponent who got blown out in his last fight. But he probably will because it’s boxing and that’s just how it works.
The fact that a championship fight with one of their highest profile fighters (Garcia) got beat by UFC Prelims headlined by Demian Maia should be embarrassing for PBC.

HAHAHAHA!!! Holy shit more bad news for PBC. Wasn’t this supposed to be PBC’s ESPN break out show?? I guess not. Decent numbers if it was a low cost event, not for an event that costs 5-6m to promote with no right’s fees on the table. Another massive financial loss for PBC.
You notice how the Gayest will do everything he can to spin his bullshit. You act like those things don’t happen to UFC shows. As a matter of fact, the UFC shows are typically longer which brings down the average.
PBC will be out of business within a year.
The Greatest says
They already paid for two years so no they wont be out of business.
Honestly i expected better ratings.
Paulie is washed so u can throw some blame on that but Garcia cant put asses in the seats unless he faces someone that can challenge him.
Boxing has big fights comin up, and honestly most arent on PBC.
PBC and Haymon need to stop fuckin around.
I get that they are building their stable and dont want to start killing them off, but they need to start giving us fights we want. Aug 29 card is good.
The three in between are shit with the exception of Tarver-Cunningham which is still kinda a shit card.
d says
Hahaha. You are such an idiot and expose yourself for the moron you are every time you post. A year from now they will be 1 year, 5 months in. I guarantee you that hedge fund has a buy out clause. If something drastic doesn’t change, they absolutely will be done. They can’t sustain these losses. Since Hayman can’t promote fights because of the Ali Act, these fights also have an added cost of paying out a promoter just to put their name on the top of the promotion. Overpaid purses, horribly expensive ideas with new camera’s, stage, jumbo tron, etc. This is doomed.
On another note- the Mayweather-Berto fight which is now official for ppv will draw less ppv buys than at least 4 UFC’s this year, if not more. The UFC will also outdraw boxing in ppv buys again this year for 8 out of the last 9 years. As it stands now- even with that bullshit, inflated number on May-Pac, the UFC is ahead with bigger ppvs coming up still this year.
This must be driving the Gayest crazy.

This is what a brain dead retard comes up with.
GGG’s fight will do 300k. At most Cotto-Canelo will do 1m. Mayweather Berto…less than 700k. Mayorga-Mosley if it goes down will be a joke that hits 100k buys.
The UFC has a massive fight coming up in December with Aldo-McGregor and it looks like its headed back to Vegas now. They are going to hit well over 7m buys as long as that fight goes down as it looks like they are planning.
And again, since you are an idiot that can’t grasp this concept, if boxing spread out their ppvs, they would have less buys per fight card. You just can’t accept this reality because you are an idiot. When they tried last year, with 7 ppvs, they did less than the prior 2 years and more this year with less ppvs. They don’t have the star power, the fans don’t want to pay for that many fights in boxing, and the promotions put huge amounts of money into those few ppvs.
d says
Fagbusiness you are retarded and it seems you are in complete denial.
First off, 1m avg viewers is shit numbers for a big named fighter like Danny Garcia and with purses that range in the 3m area plus production costs ranging around 2-3m. This can’t continue. They are losing millions. The UFC’s prelims beat this show. Haha.
“the ufc will absoluetly not do more than boxing this year in ppv’s. what on god’s green earth are you talking about? Boxing will do about 6.3 million ppv bu this year.”
Either delusions or you can’t count. After this Rousey fight gets tallied, the UFC is already at around 5.2m buys. Then they still have 4 more ppvs left with the biggest one of the year headed for December.
Johnson-Dodson…..150k buys
Gus-Cormier………….300k buys
Lawler-Condit……….300k buys
Aldo-McGregor…….has the potential to do 2m buys. It is going to be the biggest fight in the history of the promotion. All it would need is around 1m buys for the UFC to hit 7m which would be enough to beat boxing this year in buys even with that delusional Bob Arum May-Pac number. The most boxing will do is in the low 6m’s. If Aldo-McGregor goes down in December, they will destroy boxing and do more buys in a year where boxing had its biggest fight in history. Haha.

Or that in Nevada the annual salary for a janitor is $26k while a UFC fighters annual salary is $25k, average of course.

UFCs not at 5.2mil u idiot, that would mean UFC 190 did 1.1m buys which is just stupid.

Last time I checked 1.599m is more than 1.5m so that means UFC>PBC, yea, numbers don’t lie. You need to actually stop making up delusions and cherry picking statistics. Those were the peaks for the events. Nice try.
4.4m…..according to boxing promoters, no one unbiased.
There aren’t 20 boxers who make over 1m consistently for a fight and the majority of them are overpaid and their promotions are going to go under soon.
The average salary for a UFC fighter is higher than the average salary for a banner promoted boxer. The problem is idiots like you ignore what prelim boxers make and main card fighters who get paid dirt. Most boxers lose money to fight. That is a fact. The overwhelming majority who fight on prelims make 2-3k for big events.
Numbers don’t lie, but the Gayest’s world revolves around lies.
According to Jeremy Botter, UFC 190 is ranging around 1.1-1.2m buys. When questioned if he got his information from the UFC, he said no, and then also pointed out that the number going over 1m was a fact. He is a reputable writer for Bleacher report and has a million times more credibility than Bob Arum and Leonard Ellerbe who you take as Gods. Dave Meltzer did not say it was topping out at 800k if everything went perfectly. You just made that up like you do everything. He said it was too early to predict because none of the cable numbers came in yet- he typically reports them on the following Thursday or Friday.
Also as for UFC 189, the numbers won’t be finalized for a long time, just like every ppv, but according to Meltzer, he is now saying it is in the 950k range. He always gives 3 different figures for a ppv- the opening estimates reported the following week, a closer estimate a few weeks later when many of the cable buys begin to come in, and then a final number much later. The 950k figure was his second number.
Of course you are thinking 600k when an expert is saying it could be over 1m, you are a retard.
UFC PPV’s over 5m already in August with a massive ppv coming up in December. The Gayest is self destructing. All of his predictions were dead wrong and there are now two UFC stars bigger than Floyd Mayweather when it comes to ppv.
Gayweather does under 700k with Berto.
The Greatest says

Its also funny that when Velazquez only hits 300k it takes them three weeks to come out with that number but they can come out with Rhonda’s number being 1 million two days after the event?Bullshit they’re already claiming 1.1 mil and they still don’t even know what the paper view before that did, the fuck out of here you moron.
You’re still at 3 million before any things official and that’s how the game is played son.
4.4 mil one pay per view in the beginning of May.
d says
You fucking retarded freak. I never said it wouldn’t hit 3m and I guarantee it didn’t hit 4m. Again, you are taking the word of the promoter you dumb shit.
Blotter made these statements yesterday which was 3 days later. There is also no they involved in this, it was him. Meltzer’s statements were that the satellite buys are through the roof and factoring that in with the google searches and cable pre buys this looks like it is bigger than 189 which he had at 950k. You also basically just admitted you lied about Meltzer’s statements, because you didn’t respond to what I pointed out. Don’t you realize how pathetic you are by just lying like that?
I notice you are self destructing because the UFC presently is looking like they are at roughly 5.2m buys and boxing is probably around 3.5m- they also had a few low profile Latino ppvs that may have bumped that up 50k, hahaha.
Thanks for also acknowledging you are a retard for lying about the PBC numbers.

Canadian Bacon says
I don’t get people on here comparing boxing to MMA. Both are combat sports but that is all they have in common. UFC is more like a league and has the bulk of the top MMA fighters, boxing has multiple promoters and is much more random with regards to its fights. The two business models are completely different UFC’s business will be much more steady but boxing once in awhile will put up a huge event. Also comparing Mayweather’s pay to Ronda Rousey’s is like comparing apples to oranges. Mayweather has his own promotion company so he is like Rousey and the ufc combined. With that he also has to pay his portion of the expenses of putting on the fight ie promotion and marketing. so for sure on a big fight Mayweather is going to get paid more. But he also takes the risk of an event not selling well or being cancelled due to injury or PED. All that being said I don’t think there is any doubt that ufc/mma has broader support than boxing at this time, but comparing the two is useless.

The Gayest, do you even know what you are saying? Go look at the comment section under the articles- no one gives a shit about or reads the boxing sections. They are mostly diehard mma fans on sherdog who have been following them for years but are starting to get fed up with the fact that sherdog is adding a lot more boxing content these days. It doesn’t mean fans are actually reading it. Boxing fans mostly read boxingscene, badlefthook, etc. Sherdog can’t compete with the big sites anymore and are trying something new which is very foolish and proven it doesn’t work. As for the rest of your rant, no, again, most of the people on there are mma fans- there are always a few boxing trolls- because boxing fans are insecure freaks who are terrified of mma taking over- which it is. They still think guys like Art Jimmerson were robbed in their UFC appearances….they are brain dead and delusional.
I don’t think I’ve ever agreed with anything Dana White said when it came down to actual figures other than gate figures which he has to report to the athletic commissions and can’t lie about. What’s ironic, is that I know White is full of shit, but when someone with integrity calls out Schaeffer, Espinoza, Arum, Ellerbe, etc on their lies, you are the first to defend them, you mutant. Promoters are liars in both sports. They do it to protect their interests.
Also, you are lying again about Meltzer. How do you take yourself seriously? Here is exactly what he said about 190:
““As far as North America goes, it will probably beat every WrestleMania ever. Maybe, maybe not Austin-Rock (WM17), but I can’t be sure,”
WM17 did 970k buys, so he is pointing it out that Rousey may have eclipsed 970k.
As for UFC 189, his last estimate was 950k which is why MMAPAYOUT posted it.
Stop with all of your lies idiot-you have zero credibility.
