UFC on Fox 16 drew an official live + SD rating of 2.8 million viewers factoring in the complete event which aired from 8-10:30PM ET. In addition, the prelims which preceded the main card on Fox drew 1.3M viewers.
The ratings were released via Fox Sports press release. The numbers show a bump based on the fast overnights of 2.29M viewers which did not account for the last 30 minutes of the event. The peak of the main card was 3.8 million viewers.
In comparison to last July’s UFC on Fox event, this year’s card featuring T.J. Dillashaw defending his bantamweight title against Renan Barao did better than UFC on Fox 12 which drew 2.5 million viewers peaking at 3.4 million. Last July featured Matt Brown taking on Robbie Lawler.

The chart and graph have been revamped to include the “fast overnights” versus the Live + same day (SD) rating. The overnights do not account for any overruns. The live plus same day rating includes any viewership that may have occurred that day and not just live viewing.
Note that UFC on Fox 1 and 2 we do not have the “fast overnights,” just the Live +SD rating.
Payout Perspective:
The bump in viewership is a nice increase from the original overnight viewership in comparison to the last couple network events. Its peak viewership of 3.8M viewers is the best peak for a UFC on Fox event since UFC on Fox 13 drew 3.8M viewers. The prelims matches the viewership number on Fox for UFC on Fox 12. The only other time the prelims were also on Fox, UFC on Fox 15 drew 1.4 million viewers.
Let’s hear the retarded boxing trolls try to spin this. Dillashaw-Barao was the best rated Summer UFC on FOX show thus far.
To put the 2.8M number into perspective, WWE is in panic mode b/c WWE Raw’s ratings are averaging less than 4M viewers on a weekly basis on cable tv.
Reruns of Family Guy on TBS at 11pm are averaging 3+M viewers. Family Guy on Fox was doing 5-7M viewers..

Good question about 189’s influence. 189 was what “The Fight of the Century”, with all its viewers, hoped to be. Instead, it was widely panned and didn’t do much to set up any future potential fights, a la Aldo-McGregor.
But to be fair, TJ-Barao rematch was a big match-up. So many great fights lately!
Only boxing Idiots would try to compare WWE to UFC ratings. WWE is scripted. That allows them to use their biggest stars every single week. The UFC just ran an event with their 50th most popular fighter at the headliner. It would be like the WWE running Monday Night Raw with it’s biggest name being the Brooklyn Brawler. They wouldn’t do shit for ratings. Instead they get to march out the Rock, Cena, and all their starts to atleast speak even if they are not wrestling that night. Good point guys about 189 endluencs. The UFC has always been able to take advantage of its mainstream success. It wouldn’t be out of the question that the few hundred thousand viewer jump was due to increased interest from those who bought 189. Ironically Boxings PBC is getting poor ratings after the Fight of the century. Which means the fight was so bad that it didn’t get any viewers on PBC events. Or PBC numbers are getting help from that big fight and will actually drop off to even worse ratings soon. Either the fight of the century hurt boxing or PBC is doing worse than once thought. Either way it’s not good for boxing. If that boxing PPV was any good it should have give boxing a shot in the arm for the next year or two. Instead it showed everything that was wrong with boxing.

The Aldo-McGregor fight will do 2m buys- guaranteed.
Mayweather only sold 2ppvs as the A that went over 2m buys, and the one that went over 3m involved the only other boxing ppv star over the past 7 years- Pacqauio. If you gave McGregor someone on the level of Pacqauio in terms of drawing power, than it is possible he could hit over 3m if they had it at UFC 200 at all the stars aligned. Keep in mind, part of the reason those fight numbers are so big, is because those promotions only do 2 ppvs at most per year and put tens of millions of dollars into promoting them. If the UFC concentrated all of their money into promoting 2-3 ppvs per year, they would be doing those numbers easily.
