The debut of PBC on ESPN Saturday night drew an average viewership of 800,000 viewers from 9pm-11pm ET. It surpassed 2015’s Friday Night Fight telecasts which averaged just 381,000 viewers.
The main event featuring Keith Thurman and Luis Collazo drew an average of 999,000 viewers with a peak at close to 1.2 million according to ESPN. The main event aired 10:15pm-11pm ET. The other fight on the card was Willie Nelson taking on Tony Harrison. Nelson’s KO of Harrison drew an average of 799,000 viewers. The two-hour event which aired opposite a portion of the UFC 189 Prelims and a portion of the UFC 189 PPV.
Payout Perspective:
Very good ratings considering the UFC was on at the same time. The UFC 189 prelims drew 847,000 viewers on FS1 in the 8pm-10pm ET time slot. Although ESPN probably expected more viewers from PBC, the ratings still have to please execs considering it doubled the ratings of its predecessor Friday night Fights. PBC on ESPN will return the same night as Ronda Rousey and UFC 190 as Danny Garcia will take on Paulie Malignaggi.
Chris says
ESPN probably expects more, having Garcia on next card is good but man these main events are horrible. Total squash matches. Garcia vs Paulie? Very few PBC fights are good competitive fights, lots of squash match bookings. Broner/Porter was a good one, thats what we need more of.
BrainSmasher says
Not good ratings for ESPN! I always said that was the best place for the UFC to land. They would get monster ratings Constantly on ESPN. 800,000 for their first show on ESPN is not very good at all! Hell, you are given a ton of sports fans on a silver flatter while other networks are lucky if they are given fringe sport fans single ESPN has first choice and has major sports. If this was a 7-10th event it would be decent. But not a first event!

More horrible ratings for PBC. A consistent pattern of bad ratings and million dollar loses. They are starting to really accumulate now.
On a funnier note- you gotta love Ronda Rousey’s quote after beating Floyd Mayweather for Best Fighter ESPY:
“I wonder how Floyd feels being beat by a woman for once,” she said. “I’d like to see you pretend to not know who I am now.”
FightBusiness says
these ratings are absolutely fine and good. 1.2 million for the main event is what matters. no one knew the undercards including myself. collazo is a no name. the ratings are good. espn fans dont follow boing. they follow the big 4 sports. the numbers will only grow. you will see it with the garcia fight.
d says
Delusional Fagbusiness at it again. Horrible numbers. This is ESPN with an alleged boxing star.
I notice you never address the UFC headlining fight’s ratings, just the entire card. I guess you only use headliners when talking about boxing because it fits into your bullshit argument.
ESPN has had fights on forever now. This is nothing new. The ratings suck because boxing isn’t very popular outside of the two guys who are retiring soon. Garcia’s fight won’t do any big numbers. Same shit. He already fought on NBC and didn’t impress at all, nor did any of their other cards.
FightBusiness says
and theufc isnt popular at all ever. the weidman,c ormier card proved that. talk to me after canelo vs cotto regarding boxing only has two stars. the main event is all that counts for this crappy ass card and the main event featured a bum also. espn has a ton of sports on. boxing is on with crappy cards on a friday night. whopty freakin doo, no one cares about that shit. pbc is a another level. 1.2 million is strong. for a crappy main event. 1.5 million guranteed for a good card.
d says
What an idiot. More delusions of grandeur from fagbusiness. Truth is, he is really excited about boxing because of their fag champions and transexual promoters.

So more ppl are tuning into boxing then were before thats what ESPN is really looking at.
Numbers werent great, they werent bad, they were ok.
Garcia-Paulie does better numbers and I think the viewership will increase with the match making.
Boxing isnt new to anyone. Every person in the world knows what boxing is. Its not like PBC is debuting anything new. I think people like D forget that when the UFC on FOX debuted, alot of ppl didnt know what MMA was. Look at their numbers after. Alot of those ppl never came back to watch another show.

He still doesnt know who she is. If he was in the audience he probably looked confused as shit looking up wondering why some softball player was up there wondering if he knew who she was.

The purses went from about 100k total to around 3m and the ratings have only jumped from 300k to 800k. That is called a financial loss genius.
“Numbers werent great, they werent bad, they were ok.

No, they were bad. These should have been well over a million for it to be viewed as a success. The viewership won’t go up much from the match making. It won’t get much better than having guy’s like Thurman on there. Ratings are based on star power and for PBC shows, it won’t get too much bigger than this.

It is new in this format- especially to network tv- it hasn’t been on there in years. Attempting to make a league out of boxing is new. The UFC numbers went down afterwards because the profile of the cards went down and as everyone in this world comprehends other than retarded boxing trolls- your numbers will gradually decrease after your debut until they level off which we will see happen to PBC. The issue with them is, they didn’t even start strong.
This has disaster all over it. I don’t see this lasting more than 2 years and that will be after they already lost 500m.
“He still doesnt know who she is. If he was in the audience he probably looked confused as shit looking up wondering why some softball player was up there wondering if he knew who she was.”
She just beat him for an ESPY, can’t ignore that moron.
saldathief says
According to the delusional ufc paid girl scouts, and this includes the shrimp 5’4 joe, i’m on a ton of steroids, Rogan. No one would be watching boxing when there was a ufc event at the same time. Wow, once again they are proved so wrong! And to compare a brand new sport making a network tv debut to boxing is what a retard who knows nothing about “curiosity” does. So? where are all the millions of mma fans now? I say not bad numbers for espn, whats the excuse for the downward spriralof the ufc on fs1 and Fox??
Oh and no one would even be talking about Rousey if she didn’t mention Floyd!! bahahahahh
d says
Sal ranting, same as always. He’s a boxing paid, welfare to work troll.
Chris says
Sal the PBC numbers on basically every network they are on are all down.
NBC

2.3 mill

Spike

569k
772k

The Greatest says

Truth.

Yeah, that’s why she just beat his ass for an ESPY and is all over Hollywood and in the news.
You are a retarded mental patient.
Truth.

the last nbc ratings (2.3 million) was a prelimary number. they never came out with the final number. its usually always 400k more.
The Greatest says
Its all over Hollywood?
I don’t think Hollywood gives a shit. Its an ESPY not an Oscar.
That was Bruce Jenners night.
The biggest female athlete last night had a penis, and it wasn’t Rousey

You never cease to out-retard yourself. I was referring to Rousey genius. She’s in a number of big movies: Expendibles 3, Entourage, Furious Seven, etc.
You were hoping the courage award would go to the tranny boxing promoter. HAHAHAHA!!
The Greatest says
Victor Ortiz was in that movie too u idiot.
Word is he KOd Rousey on set on accident.
d says
You are such a brain dead, stupid fuck. First off, who cares if Ortiz was in that. No one even knew he was in it. As a matter of fact, who even knows who the hell Victor Ortiz is? He had a much smaller role, and there was much more of a mma influence in the movie, seeing how Couture was also in it.
Word is she actually choked him unconscious because he is a boxer and boxers don’t know how to fight. That’s why they lose to women. HAHAHAHA!!
