Premier Boxing Champions airing at 9:00pmET-11:05pm ET on Spike TV Friday night drew an average viewership of 446,000 per Sports TV Ratings.
UPDATED: Per a Nielsen source, the peak for the event was 613,000 viewers making it the lowest peak for PBC on Spike events.
PBC on Spike TV
March 2015 – 869,000 overall average; 1 million peak
April 2015 – 569,000 overall average; 761,000 peak
May 2015 – 772,000 overall average; 1.12 million peak
June 2015 – 446,000 overall average; 613,000 peak
Notably, on NBC Sports Network, a replay of PBC on NBC (from Saturday May 23rd) aired at the same time as PBC on Spike TV and drew an average viewership of 156,000 viewers per Sports TV Ratings.
The average viewership for PBC on Spike TV stands at 664,000 viewers.
Payout Perspective:
Friday’s fights were the lowest rating for PBC on Spike TV since it debuted in March. The main event featured Erislandy Lara taking on Delvin Rodriguez with Lara picking up the victory. It was interesting that NBC Sports aired a PBC replay at the same time as its live offering. Perhaps a drawback of having multiple broadcast deals with different networks. The event was likely overshadowed by FIFA Women’s World Cup on Fox which aired from 8:00pm ET-10:00pm ET and drew 4.22 million viewers per TV By the Numbers.
Diego says
Lara lacks a killer instinct. It’s frustrating as hell. Him, Rigo and Mayweather – I admire the talent, but when they retire I won’t miss them.
Diego says
PBC is finding out the same thing the UFC already knows – it’s not good enough to brand your promotion, it matters who you put in the ring. Too much content is as bad as not enough. And too many platforms confuse and annoy fans. Last week’s PBC was a clusterfuck that began with the main event on NBC, then switched to NBC Sport for the remainder of the card that came on after the main event. Who does that? Naturally I missed the main event. It’s way too confusing to have things on so many channels.

I expected this, anytime you have a friday event it is going to be a tough go. We will see what happens saturday though with the Broner Porter fight being on NBC. Should pull some big numbers.
d says
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! ANOTHER TURD BURGER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PBC Shits the Bed Again!!!!!
500 million going straight down the shitter!!!
d says
Fight Fan aka Sampson making excuses! Boxing trolls are pathetic. HAHAHA!!!
d says
Nearly every Bellator event beats this number. Talk about “Premier”. HAHAHA!!
Chris says
Thats a horrible number for Spike. PBC needs to step up, their matchmaking is trash, Garcia/Paulie? Tarver headlining a card?
Step your shit up PBC.
BrainSmasher says
The PBA (bowling) mistakes these numbers for their and about had a heart attack and thought they were doomed. Then they realized it was boxing. Hahahaha
saldathief says
wow pbc doing tuf numbers bahahahahah
d says
More like PBC is doing lower than low profile Bellator numbers. TUF are not live fights.
d says
Purses for the headliners- Lara 1m, Rodriguez 140k. Tons of other overhead costs, another major financial loss for PBC.
FightBusiness says
ok these numbers are pathetic but they’re is clear proof that matches are responsible for ratings. khan averages 772 k average and two weeks later ratings drop by 40%?? this is a clear match making problem. few know lara & no one knows or cares about Rodriguez. i didnt even see this shit and i’m a hardcore boxing fan. had a good fight been on i would have seen it. fyi. khan vs algeri was a joke of a fight (matchmaking at least) and did 1.1 million peak. put khan vs porter or broner it does 1.5 million peak.
saldathief says
Diego has it spot on! There aren’t that many boxing fans to support this many fights on TV. The big 2 know this, pbc will learn, but I think they have a long term plan that will play out in a few years. bahaha we are seeing the failed plan of the UFC playing out right in front of us. What a serious fall from 2012. But don’t worry Rousey to the rescue, there is no one else bahahahah
d says
When Bellator puts shit match ups together they do better ratings most of the time than these ratings PBC put up. It is not just about matchups. The Khan ratings weren’t good either. Lara is a known fighter also. He fought Canelo and arguably won the fight. Not a big name, but not irrelevant.
d says
Sal ranting, making shit up, nothing new.
tops E says
But who fought? Lara….hahaha…he would probably be an opponent of somebody famous next time…so exposure for him.
…im seing haymons strategy of these boxers going and fighting in diff channels to get max exposure then fighting each other on ppv…khan, maidana ,broner, garcia fighting the top 10 or 15 in theyre division several times a year on free tv and if victorious would fight each other on ppv…
Combo says
Not great ratings for PBC. LOL at comparing it (live fights) to TUF, whose ratings have been increasing with the last few episodes, unlike PBC on NBC.
d says
Tops is a retard. This play isn’t for ppv. That huge article had one of the key investors discussing and analyzing how it was a long term tv contract play to get to the degree that the major sports teams leagues are. The numbers they are putting up now wouldn’t even land them a contract that was Bellator worthy. HAHA! Bellator has unknowns drawing bigger numbers on Spike.
This is a disaster for them and they know it. They have to pray for a miracle that completely changes the landscape and it is never going to happen. RIP PBC!!!!
The Greatest says
Lara is a top boxer but no one knows him outside hardcore fans.
But this was poorly promoted.
I thought the fight was at night. I turned it on, pulled up my computer and see Lara wins UD.
Had no idea this fight was earlier in the day, and apparently alot of other ppl didnt know either.
Broner/Porter will easily do better than this on NBC.
The Greatest says
446K is bad but I dont think anyone expected Lara-Rodriguez to be a barn burner at the box office.
I did expect 500k+ tho.
I will say Bellator with Shamrock-Kimbo will do good numbers.
Im gonna watch it. Why? Not because its MMA but because its a freak show, which is really what the MMA is becoming.
Trying to milk the last drops before everyone bails out.
Game of Belts says
The ratings for this event weren’t that good but PBC has a deep stable and a sizeable war chest. Artur Beterbiev was impressive on Friday! Lara looked good too.
Next week they have Broner and Spence on the same card which could easily average over a million.
tops E says
If these boxers become name fighters because of exposure on free tv…haymon can bid or sell tv rights of these boxers as an individual entity…similar to mayweater being signed a 6 fight deal with showtimer after all he is also acts as manager…so more marketing time and tv time being spent on each fighter than the pbc brand or haymon not taking airtime away from the boxers(unlike dw being the center of attention all the time)
Diego says
“I thought the fight was at night. I turned it on, pulled up my computer and see Lara wins UD.

I agree. PBC needs to stop confusing fans with their crazy schedule. It’s frustrating.
The Greatest says
PBC has Broner/Porter on NBC starting at 5:30 pacific time and on BET with Ward/Smith at 7pm pacific time. FS2 has David Lemieux vs Hassan N’Dam at 7pm all on the same day. June 20th
Its gonna be interesting how the ratings play out with 3 notable fights all going on around the same time.
Good Saturday for boxing.
Chris says
nothing funnier than seeing Tops, Sal and other idiots on this site trash UFC when they do a bad number. Trash d for spinning shit and then when PBC shits the bed they do the exact same thing.
duck says
I can see Spike dropping their whole Friday night combat sports theme and either hope TNA Wrestling dies and they can then put Jeff Jarrett’s promotion on Spike (TNA have a contract that if they are still in business, Jarrett can’t put a pro wrestling promotion on Spike) or just have Friday night be movie night and they would draw much better ratings.
d says
HAHAHAHA!!! Look at the Gayest go nuts!! He’s in full retard spin mode!
Can’t accept reality that PBC is failing miserably and putting up numbers lower than Bellator which at times has side show fights, but that’s because they are a mid major fight promotion and have to do this to compete somewhat with the UFC. You’ll never see the side show stuff within the UFC these days because they don’t need it. You also keep forgetting that Kimbo fought in boxing for a few years. I guess that covers their side show act also. Not to mention speaking of side shows- De La Hoya is so desperate right now, he is considering becoming GGG’s next victim implying he may come back. Boxing = mad desperation!
Yeah PBC has a lot of shows on and a lot of horribly bad ratings that can’t cover their overhead costs. They are burning through millions with miserable numbers to go along.
d says

Another retard statement. Mayweather’s 6 fight deal with Showtime is a ppv/tv replay rights deal- this is completely unrelated to what Haymon is doing. His goal is to get tv rights deals across the board, not a ppv/tv replay deal. The issue with this is PBC’s ratings need to be excellent to get a solid deal, because of the massive costs for these events and the ratings are no where near where they need to be to secure something like that.
You can’t pay fighters on a free tv NBC show purses that are in the 4-6m range for one event with a shit gate, a promoter’s fee, and a huge production budget, where you are only doing ratings in the 3m range. No one in their right mind would pay you the right’s fee that would be needed to profit with that. The UFC has a legit deal in place with better ratings, lower overhead, less competition, and they are still receiving only 100m. You would need at least double that in right’s fees to cover these costs and the ratings you would need to secure that would have to be in the 6-7m range for network shows on average. The NHL’s US deal only pays out 200m per year and they get much bigger ratings consistently than PBC.
This has disaster written all over it and everyone knows I am not exaggerating. They are going to have to find a way to drastically improve their ratings and I don’t see any reason why it will happen. Their goal was to find an untapped audience in the 18-49 demo that in reality has proven to simply not exist. This is still a long term play for them with hedge fund money, so it will be interesting to see how long they are willing to continue burning through millions before they pull the plug.
Chris says
Dan Rafael @danrafaelespn 18m18 minutes ago
Per Nielsen, Showtime telecast averaged 482k viewers. Zlat-Redkach opener averaged 381k, Wilder-Molina 678k (big drop from Stiverne bout).
d says
Haha. I thought Wilder was the savior of the hw division in boxing. 482k viewers says that clearly isn’t the case.
duck says
I don’t know if it would be cost effective but they have European guys like Amir Khan & Carl Frampton on Haymon’s roster and they are showing Frampton’s fight in the US for an afternoon card, they could hold the event in Northern Ireland and easily do a legit sell out in prime time over there and still air the show live in the afternoon in the US. Im guessing the Frampton fight is half empty because the time it’s on like the last Guerrero fight.
Amir Khan could do the exact same.

Walters, one of boxings rising stars averages 588k viewers, the co main event did better ratings.
Spike, SHowtime, HBO all with huge flops this weekend. Ouch

@ Chris, Glad we entertain you, the difference between us and D, bs and that tool matt is we can admit when something is bad. And you don’t see any of us trashing WSO and other promotions complete shit ratings!

Hahaha…crying chris is back again…hahaha..the fact that people are mentioning up and coming boxers names in this discussion shows the hype is working wilder, walters, etc…..in the ufc its ufc 184 ufc 188, dw this dw that…hahahaha..good that mma fans know who walters is because even thou he beat donaire…donaite is not even a ppv star….more up and coming boxing names are becoming familiar with the public good for boxing
BrainSmasher says
Sal you are not very smart. Typical of the boxing demographic! We are fans of MmA. Why would we bash the sport regardless of the numbers are weak or strong? We are away of what is strong and what isn’t. But we don’t get a chance to say one way or the other because we care about the sport and are to busy defending it against adds clowns like you to give an honest assessment of an event. So, because of you idiots, there is only 2 numbers. Numbers we run in your face and numbers we don’t. That is the bi-product of you guys idiot negativity!
FightBusiness says
bahahaha a credible Boxing journalist has just posted that fox has just signed a network deal with PBC. LOL LOL LOL LOL but but nobody wants PBC Fight business.
News should be coming out soon. Once the sweet science is under one network roof ratings will soar as will matchmaking. shits too damn easy. just too damn easy
duck says
“News should be coming out soon. Once the sweet science is under one network roof ratings will soar as will matchmaking. shits too damn easy. just too damn easy”.
They’ve signed two year contracts with most of these networks and are paying for the right to do so, no free network would ever give any sport other than the NFL 60 odd dates on network TV a year, so they won’t be on one network.
FightBusiness says
dan rafael is reporting fox has signed a deal with them and it starts this summer so take a seat bitch. i’m sure they’ve worked out the particulars.
BrainSmasher says
Hate to break it to you. But a TV deal is useless without it being lucrative. PBC has been paying to get on TV. So clearly they would accept any deal where they didn’t have to pay even if that deal was for $1.00! So again a fox deal is useless until we know numbers.
FightBusiness says
how is it useless? first off hater said there would be no network deal. so lets first mock and ridicule them. LOL LOL LOL
secondly do you honestly believe a company would fork over millions of dollars if there was NO value in it for them?
lastly Boxing has a shit ton of value if god fights are made. ask HBO. Lara vs Rodriguez wont cut it but Broner vs Garcia will. Amir did a 1.1 millin peak. thats value right there. there deal probably includes ratings incentives as well.
d says
Saldaqueer spins everything and is completely full of shit.
d says
I don’t think tops even knows where he is right now. Completely incoherent.
d says
“bahahaha a credible Boxing journalist has just posted that fox has just signed a network deal with PBC. LOL LOL LOL LOL but but nobody wants PBC Fight business.”
This is what we call a complete moron. FOX deal with UFC = 100M per year rights deal. Potential FOX deal with PBC = Buy time where Haymon pays FOX money to air his shit fights and shit ratings.
Of course, people love business when they get paid millions without even lifting a finger. HAHAHAHA!!! Hedge fund money is great, until it gets completely flushed down the toilet because it is a horrible investment.
d says
“secondly do you honestly believe a company would fork over millions of dollars if there was NO value in it for them?”
No company is forking over millions other than the hedge fund investment, ie, FOX isn’t giving them shit.
“Amir did a 1.1 millin peak. thats value right there. there deal probably includes ratings incentives as well.”
Delusional. That is the epitome of a financial loss and is the very antithesis of value. Did you learn finance from Sal? HAHA. Explain to me how a 1.1 peak(not average) is value where your event is running in the 4-5m range not including the time buy? Even if they did have a legit deal in place where Spike paid them a full rights deal, the fee for that wouldn’t be above a million. This was a massive loss.
d says
This one is for the Gayest:

Yeah, boxing doesn’t have freak shows attempting to milk the last dollar. HAHA!! This fight will do better ratings than every PBC so far.
Chris says
Hopefully PBC comes to Fox/FS1, they need boxing and that Golden Boy bullshit wasnt cutting it.
But I dont think it will be a major deal, it would likely be a for a few FS1 cards like you are seeing on Spike/ESPN.
Maybe they get a few big Fox shows but doubt it. They are already struggling to fill out the cards they have and are putting on garbage matches. But I would like real boxing on FS1 to go along with UFc.
Plus for everyone who loves to compare ratings now you can really compare the two since they are on same network in same amount of homes.
Wonder what the usual suspects will say when UFC prelims do better than boxing main events on FS1.
tops E says
Fanboys in full force….hahaha…its all about boxing now…haymon will make upcoming boxers…more familiar to mainstream fans…wilder, thurman, khan, broner, garcia, maidana, etc….and have a core fan base by making them fight in theyre home state like wilder fighting in his home state, broner and porter in ohio where theyre from..
d says
Tops is too stupid to even following his own incoherent statements. He makes no sense and rambles like the tard he is.
Chris says
Forget the bullshit mma vs boxing, forget ratings and all the stupid troll shit.
Deep down do you think the matchmaking PBC is doing is good? You think Garcia vs Paulie is good matchmaking? You think that Wilder fight was good matchmaking?
I’m sure the usual suspects like Tops and the trolls will say yes but every real boxing journalist, site, ESPN, Bad Left Hook, Dan, Scott etc along with basically every real fan is laughing at the horrible matchmaking PBC is doing right now.
Hopefully they start to make better fights but they probably wont, Haymon is known for protecting his guys.
BrainSmasher says
Since when has boxing ever been about good match ups? Boxing is based on fighters running off 20-30 easy wins before fightingn anyone. How is that good match making?
Also how are they supposed to make good match ups when they have only a handful of names? You put the names against each other. Who them move on to fight? You just knocked off one of the few known fighters with potential. The only way boxing can sell fights and build fighters is huge mismatches and try to sell them as meaningful until they have built a stable of paper chumps who the public sheep bought into as legit meaningful fighters.
