MMA Payout has learned through a Nielsen source that Saturday night’s TUF 3 Brazil Finale drew an average viewership of 609,000 viewers. It is down slightly from the last UFC live event on FS1.
TUF 3 featured Stipe Miocic taking on Fabio Maldonado in the main event. Junior dos Santos was to face Miocic but was replaced due to injury. The last live event on FS1, and the last on a Saturday night, UFC Fight Night 40 on May 10 drew 655,000 viewers (DVR +3 735K)
The event on FS1 competed with the NBA Playoffs as well as HBO Boxing in certain markets with the much anticipated Carl Froch-George Groves rematch and Nonito Donaire returning to the ring.
Payout Perspective:
I am of the opinion that this is a good rating considering the amount of combat sports that were on for Saturday. Not only was there a UFC event earlier in the day, but there were at least two other boxing events on Saturday. The TUF 3 Brazil Finale had lesser known fighters and the card was hurt with the scratch of JDS. It also was a 3 hour plus show that felt like it dragged on which probably made even the biggest UFC fan weary.

Excellent preview show for this Saturday’s Cotto-Martinez that will take place in a sold out Madison Square Garden in NYC. Projected PPVs is about 500,000 buys. Significantly more than any UFC event this year.

The MSG record crowd for boxing is 21,238 for Cotto-Margarito II. Cotto-Martinez crowd expected to eclipse that.

Im curious what MSG and Cotto Martinez has to do with tuf Brazil? I really doubt this fight needs any extra promotion on this site.

Isn’t Cotto Brazilian?

How did we get to the point that 600k viewers for a free event on FS1 is considered to be “good”. UFC interest is certainly less than I anticipated it would be at this time.
Sampson The One and Only says
The core fan base seems to be getting smaller and smaller in the US. Not a good thing for Zuffa.
saldathief says
Assassin you are wrong, you see more people are living together in roommate situations due to the housing market and economy , so in fact there are more people watching the UFC then ever before. they just all huddle around one TV instead of having their own. =D’s twisted, delusional reasoning. LMAO
Jake says
It’s crazy when SHO which has 23 million subscribers gets better ratings for the Boxing then UFC on FS1 83 million subscribers.
I’m sure Fox is thrilled about their investment, Dana was saying 3 million plus for TUF and they are barely doing 400k every week.

Magnet for trolling
AK says
Actually yea, Fox is pretty damn happy with the deal. Are the ratings disappointing from a UFC perspective? Yes. But FS1 is struggling and their UFC is like 90 percent of their top programming.
Regarding TUF, I’m convinced its ratings would be signiiificantly better should they not constantly put on the season premieres immediately following five-hour marathons of other UFC fights. Why they keep doing that is miiiind-boggling and 100 percent worthy of all the mocking/pity/laughter/scorn they get for its laughable ratings.
saldathief says
Whenever the UFC thinks they have a good idea they should just do the opposite
Sampson The One and Only says
The UFC has gone from the “cool” “new” fighting thing to watch in 2006 to simply for the geeks that grew out of WWE. Just look how many UFC fans still watch professional wrasslin. It is sad but true…
D says
Samantha, I’ve read your posts in the past where you pointed out you still watch pro wrestling. Haha. I guess you forget what you post on here.
saldathief says
Actually IMO the UFC has more hardcore MMA fans then before, they have a strong base, nothing wrong with that. Who else can watch 30 hrs of MMA a week, you have to be a serious fan or enthusiast to be able to watch that much MMA. The UFc has dropped the ball countless times and has missed the boat and over and under estimated plenty. They think think they can re invent the fight business and dont have to listen to reason or the people that have been doing it for decades. IE Boxing and other sports. Bulldozing your way through people doesn’t work in 2014 maybe it did in 1914. The John Gotti way of doing business only works in small towns not the world stage. Get humble, learn to work with other people realize you are not the only show in town and listen to your fighters for starters.

Froch-Groves II 700k?? Wow. Talk about a monumental fight. IE, not to many people outside of the UK gave a damn about the fight.
Also, very impressive numbers for Donaire. Haha.
saldathief says
Those number arnt great but arnt bad for HBO on a sat afternoon, No one in the USA cares about Froch he’s a UK legend fore some reason, Still waiting for PPV numbers. But an average 700k on paid tv is about right.
D says
HBO is not paid tv exclusively for boxing, you are an idiot.
Sampson The One and Only says
The only people who watch MMA now a days are niggers and WWE fans, simple!
D says
Off your meds today?
Fightbusiness says
D- they replayed the Froach and Donaire fight later that evening so you can just about double those numbers. I dont even know the dude who Donaire fought. By the way Donaire is a flyweight and probably got paid at least one million for that fight.
