Glory 16: 498,000 viewers

May 7, 2014 by Jason Cruz 9 Comments

MMA Payout has learned via a Nielsen source that Glory 16 this past Saturday night received an average of 498,000 viewers with a peak of 815,000 in the 10pm quarter hour.

The event featured the first (and maybe the only) appearance of Pat Barry, Anderson Silva the kickboxer and an entertaining main event featuring Marc De Bonte defeating  Karapet Karapetyan via split decision.

Glory Ratings on Spike TV:

Glory 11: 381,000 viewers

Glory 12: 476,000 viewers

Glory 13: 659,000 viewers

Glory 14: 495,000 viewers

Glory 15: 354,000 viewers

Glory 16: 498,000 viewers

Glory 16 ratings graph

Payout Perspective:

The ratings reflect a slight rise since April’s event. One has to think these are great ratings considering the amount of events occurring on Saturday. There was an NBA Game 7 going on as well as the Mayweather PPV. Saturday was a prime opportunity for Glory to be buried by the amount of events going on but fortunately this was not the case.

@truthspitter – your perceived reality is far from “truth” if you think either glory or bellator are on the chopping block.

Glory hasn’t even been on the air for 7 months, and they’re pulling ratings that are 100% consistent with the amount of support they get from spike + the amount of time they’ve been on air. Not to mention, 500k LIVE viewers is really not bad at all, the DVR +3 numbers will boost them nicely. Giving up on Glory at this stage would be incredibly foolish and short sighted, imagine if somebody pulled the plug on the UFC within their first year on TV?

Bellator is a different story, but “chopping block” generally implies they’re getting the can, which is miles from the truth. Viacom has more money than god, and owns 100% of Bellator – do you really think a Fortune 500 company is just going to wake up one day and say “well, we’ve sunk millions into this product, let’s throw it all away” on a whim? Not going to happen. They could throw money at bellator for a decade and it still wouldn’t be considered a failure, because as anybody on the inside can tell you – content is king.

Al Pallon, how do you prove “metal” is Pat KNOCKEDOUT Barry a metallurgist? This guy should be forced to retire after how many times he’s been KOd. As for GLORY, these numbers are nothing great, Spike is already an also-ran below average network, they won’t keep supporting those numbers. Enjoy Kickboxing while it’s here, it’s definitely not a long termer

    Truthsplitter –

Bellator is doomed, Glory is doomed, the UFC is doomed, boxing is doomed. Yeah, we’ve heard it before. Any evidence to back up your claims? Maybe a quick cost/benefit analysis?

It’s time that Spike should give full pr support to the Glory-guys. The amount of pr-support Bellator is getting is ridiculous… Ok Viacom is 50% owner of Bellator, but to be honest Glory kickboxing is way more entertaining and the tv-production-level blows away Bellator. The ratings will rise again reaching the million mark at the end of the year.

These numbers are very respectable considering Glory has only been around for 6 months. 800 k during peak time? Respectable. Also remembers DVR numbers will add to these numbers.

My only problem with Glory is I wish they would westernize the look at make them wear Kickboxing shoes. Fighting barefoot looks so goofy and one day a persons toe is going to take a guy’s eye out. If they do this it will attact more Boxing fans such as myself. Glory is the future of combat sports. Its a great fushion. They will hurt the UFC’s number’s.
