May 1, 2014 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

Bellator has announced shoulder programming to promote its very first PPV on May 17th.  There will be four separate programs focusing on the top two fights: Alvarez v. Chandler and Rampage v. King Mo.

Via Bellator press release:

As Bellator prepares for its epic May 17th pay-per-view, Spike TV will premiere four compelling specials to compliment the greatest trilogy in MMA as Bellator Lightweight Champion Eddie Alvarez battles Michael Chandler, as well as the Light Heavyweight Tournament Final between MMA superstar Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and King Mo.

Premiering on Thursday, May 5th, “Countdown To Alvarez vs. Chandler III” will give fans an in-depth analysis of the main and co-main event fighters’ personal story, training camps, and lifestyles as they prepare for the biggest fights of their careers.

“Unfinished Business: Alvarez vs. Chandler III” will premiere onWednesday, May 14th and will feature a closer look at the greatest trilogy in MMA as both fighters look to join the ranks of fighting legends like Ali/Frazier & Gatti/Ward.

Michael Chandler will be featured in the latest edition of “Bellator Unrivaled” as Spike will gives fans a look at Chandler’s meteoric rise to become champion, his recent controversial setback and the current journey to get back the belt in his upcoming trilogy fight with Alvarez. “Bellator Unrivaled: Michael Chandler” will premiere on Friday, May 16th.

Fans will also get a closer look at one of the greatest rivalries in MMA as Spike premiers “Rampage vs. Mo: Winner Takes All” on Tuesday, May 13th. Two of the greatest light heavyweights in the sport break down the fight with fireworks along the way.

Payout Perspective:

Looking at the lineup of programming and Bellator is relying heavily on Eddie Alvarez and Michael Chandler to put on another great fight.  It’s nice that Bellator is investing some time in Chandler to put as a face for the organization in the event Alvarez bolts for the UFC.  Rampage and Mo should be entertaining as well from a promo standpoint but not an actual matchup.  However, Rampage is a known commodity and has starred in the Rampage4Real series.  He will be on “The Late Late Show” tonight to promote the fight.

Also, it would have been nice to have a UFC-type “Countdown” show to include the other fights on the card and introduce those fighters to the casual MMA viewer.
