UFC Fight Night 32 attendance and bonuses

November 10, 2013 by Jason Cruz 8 Comments

MMA Junkie reports the attendance and bonuses for UFC Fight Night 32 taking place at the Goiania Arena in Goiania, Goias in Brazil.  Over 10,000 in attendance saw Vitor Belfort KO Dan Henderson in the first round of the main event.

10,565 is the attendance number announced by Dana White at the post-fight press conference.

The bonuses are as follows:

Fight of the Night:  Omari Akhmedov-Thiago Perpetuo

Submission of the Night: Adriano Martins

KO of the Night: Vitor Belfort

Each received the standard $50,000.

Payout Perspective:

Brandon Thatch and Jeremy Stephens could have been candidates for the KO of the Night as well.  There was no mention of gate although there is the chance that we could get it this week.  However, the attendance was substantially more than the last two cards in Brazil.

    Jason:

Any idea how the primetimes for 167 are doing? How about in comparison to 166 and then the ones on FX? Would be interesting to see if there is a correlation in Primetime viewership and PPV buys.

Dana said at the press conference after UFN 32 that tickets sales for 167 are already over 5 million. So it looks to be doing well. Not sure about the Primetimes.

I think it’s been established that live gate success does not equate to PPV success. If the gate is that high, it’s more likely due to the fact the show is being marketed as a big anniversary show with lots of activities for fans.

I thought I read that the Primetimes were around the 166 (or even less) marker. It will be interesting to see what the sales turn out to be.

Actually live gates do reflect PPV buy rates. Its not exact. But events with large gates always do well in PPV. This event doing that kind of gate shows a huge demand. It would have to to command the kind of ticket prices to break 5 million. There have only been 5 events to do 5 million gates. The lowest of the 5 did 750,000 buys. The other 4 did 1 million or more.

    @Leon:

Here are the first run ratings for UFC 166 Primetime
October 2nd Primetime 126,000 viewer average
October 8th Primetime 85,000 viewer average
October 16th Primetime: 158,000 viewer average

The Oct 30th Primetime on UFC 167
    126,000 viewer average

I will have to dig for the FX Primetimes but as I recall they are considerably more in viewership (as you can imagine) than what we find on FS1.

There are equally or greater number of cards that do well live but do not sell PPV. The 166 card did a solid gate but underwhelmed on PPV and that’s just a random recent one that comes to mind.

The stadium GSP vs Shields did 12 M gate but only 800 k PPV so right there proves that thinking does not always ring true. Think of the ratio. Might be a coincidence time to time , but from what your saying you expect this event to sell a minimum of 750k PPVs (likely more). In today’s climate that doesn’t seem likely – we’ll see.

And thanks Jason, not a tonne of interest in prime time.

Also I believe the UFC needs approx 1.5 M sales in these next 2 events to match last years PPV numbers. Definitely attainable but seems unlikely.

I think GSP and the overall strength of the card (3 excellent fights) will lead to somewhere between 650k-750k, which is fine. GSP remains the most consistent draw on the roster, coupled with Sonnen and Lawlor fights probably gets you close to 750k. Not sure why Cerrone isn’t on the main card unless the are trying to spruce the ratings for FS1. The only downside I see is this is 3 cards in 1.5 weeks, which is a bit much for the average viewer who may feel they have seen enough without buying this one.

Yes, the Pulitzer-winning journalist is the source we should ignore, not the people who continue to want access to the LA sports team they cover. This was a dumb thing to think and an even dumber thing to tweet.
