Television By Numbers reports that the second episode of The Ultimate Fighter on FS1 grabbed a viewer average of 870,000 for a 0.5 share. The Wednesday night rating is an increase from its debut last week.
TUF featuring Ronda Rousey and Miesha Tate received an all-time debut low for the series with 762,000 viewers in overnight ratings. However, according to Ariel Helwani, the first episode viewership increased to slightly over 1 million after factoring in DVR +3 ratings.
Duck Dynasty once again ruled cable ratings Wednesday night earning an average of 9.1 million viewers. Notably, FX’s The Bridge which ran opposite TUF scored an average of 1.795 million viewers.
Payout Perspective:
The ratings increase is a good sign for TUF as it aired its first fight of the season which featured an entertaining Baszler-Pena match. It appears that the bombardment of ads on ESPN, Spike TV and Fox and voiceover placements during the NFL’s first weekend including announcers talking about the show helped with viewers. Certainly, the women dynamic should make this an interesting season with the males in the house almost an afterthought. We shall see if the ratings continue to climb.

Still not great considering the last season averaged around 1.5 mil. Are viewers interested in WMMA or does it turn them off?

It would have been huge of this season was on FX. Its a good sign people are DVR the show. Its a good season so far but its on a competitive night. Also TUF being so old and warn out is causing more people to DVR it and watch the fresh programs live. Around 400K is a very high percentage of of audience watching it on DVR. That suggest mixed feeling for the viewers. They are interested in this season but tired of the concept. It is also a sign the promotion got people attention and the increased rating this week might be a sign those DVR viewers liked what they saw and tuned in live. Then again the opening episode of TUF where they fight to get in has always sucked. The increase may just be people who realized this and skipped the first episode. After all the fight to get in are all set up fights where the choosen cast member gets a can just to weed out those who quit because they are scared to fight. The first show is just a formality. Not competitive and no drama.

Once the previews for a future tuf episode hint about fighters having sex the ratings will go skyhigh.

I forget who mentioned it last week but when they talk about being #1, it’s in sports… not everything.

Is 100k + viewers considered a success after all this:

Show still sucks! Rhonda White Trash tries to hard to get attention. She speaks white trash real well. I’m lookin foward to TUF 19 with Frankie and BJ Penn. Just my opinion. Not always the best.

If they have to bring up DVR recordings, that tells you how bad it is. They’ve never brought it up on past TUF shows to my knowledge. My knowledge isn’t the best. I just think its funny Ufc and Dana White won’t admit the show is weak. The Dvr thing is very funny.
