In an interview with the NY Post, Dana White indicated that the he is thinking that the Silva v. Weidman rematch should take place at Cowboys Stadium in Texas. While the Super Bowl weekend 2014 in New Jersey was thought to be the frontrunner, it appears that White may want a bigger show.
White told the NY Post that he thinks that the rematch could be the biggest fight in UFC history and pegs the 105,000 seat Cowboys Stadium as a possibility.
Fox has big plans for Super Bowl weekend 2014 as it has rights to the event. The UFC will have a show the night before at the Prudential Center and there was speculation that Silva-Weidman II would be the best fit for the fight. However, the concern was that the Super Bowl would overshadow the fight and would not be in the best interest of the UFC especially if White thinks it the biggest fight in UFC history.
Payout Perspective:
With Anderson Silva likely changing course and deciding to fight Weidman, we could see a big PPV rate of 1 million buys. However, does the event give rise to a stadium show. A logistical hurdle of holding the rematch in New Jersey is the travel for Brazilian fans to the show. If its held in Texas, less flight miles would be logged and the likelihood that more fans from South America would buy up the tickets. From a UFC perspective, booking the fight outside of Super Bowl weekend would benefit the UFC as many would think the fights at the Prudential Center an afterthought. The UFC wants to be the star of the weekend rather than play second in the media to the Super Bowl. We should get to know for certain soon as to a date and place.

Great. Pile hicks into a stadium because white can’t get into madison square garden. Something tells me there will be beercans tossed into the ring.

I’m flying to LA next week to go talk to [Silva]…Yes I do [expect the rematch]. Anderson Silva is going to get knocked out again by reality in a few days, and he is going to want to do this fight again… Actually, I am looking to do the rematch THIS year… It could be [UFC 168]. There is going to be a rematch. There is no way we don’t do this rematch.” from Dana white
Lol….he’s going to fly to l.a. To chase Anderson….the almighty guy of MMA is leaving his UFC office kingdom to go to l.a and what? Beg anderson? Hahaha….silva wins the leverage game….he should demand so much money for the rematch to happen and make white look like an idiot…
All the posturing, the cursing, the tough guy image the power trip of Dana does not work with a street guy like silva…
I thought if your on the bad side of the UFC you will get your ass kicked? Not ass kissed….
duck says
Yeah that’s whats happening, or maybe in the real world people like to do business face to face. There are plenty of things still to do, what promotion both guys want to do, perhaps multiple city tour, if the fight has a Primetime, instead of the usual Countdown shows, venue, fight date etc.
BrainSmasher says
LOL@Tops. Since when is Silva on Dana’s bad side? Have you ever heard how Silva talks to Dana? “Whatever you want Boss!”. Silva has no leverage at all. The UFC will get 1 more huge Pay day out of him and that’s it. HE is bound to the UFC for his entire career. IF he tries to play hard ball he can sit out and retire.
Silva would be stupid to not fight Weidman. Although I do think he should get a couple wins first. But a rematch with Weidman is the only fight for him that will get him a sizeable return from his PPV cut. Anyone else sells less PPVs if he would even get a PPV cut out all since they wouldn’t be title fights.
Silva WILL get beat in the rematch and the UFC will have to work extra hard to find his a low risk fight after that. IF losing to Weidman a second time and Silva realizing he will never be champ again doesn’t retire him. A 3 fight losing streak to 2 different people will. However I think another loss to Weidman ends his career. HE was on top for to long to just go through the motions without a good chance at getting the belt back.

Dana got pissed at machida and others for refusing to fight John jones on short notice….how childish of Dana…then gave sonnen a shot at John jones because he’s the only one who said yes before….that’s dana’s way of doing busines) trying to intimidate his fighters, worse in front of the media
…so fighters can’t refuse Dana…And based on his persona it looks pathetic for him to be all soft And chasing silva, based on his image he wants to project to the public….
He uses fighters and the UFC brand to brand himself….look at all the weigh in staredown his face is always at the middle….center of attention…..as if people would watch ppv because his face is there….hahaha
aintitthetruth says
Yeah white kissed diazs ass by getting him a hotel and such before this last one.dana acts tough but caves to the top draws, and takes it out on less popular fighters publicly to save face. Diaz didn’t even show up. white laughed it off but is crying inside cuz he got made to look like a bitch publicly and can’t do a thing about it.
aintitthetruth says
Not fighting weidman and winning everything else will still end up with a higher ranking for silva. I saw him ahead of weidman in a P4p ranking. Silva has accomplished more than weidman can dream about. There is only silva, and everyone who silva beat at 185. Anderson should finish out fighting mid tier lightheavies and hws that would be rad.
BrainSmasher says
It isn’t because they are draws. Dana kisses their ass because he likes them. He loves Silva. That’s why he put such a push to build him years ago when he was a very bad draw. He was also the one who championed the cause to psuh his as P4P best when most at the time had GSP. for some reason Dana has always related to the Diaz brother. Neither one is a draw. They have never been proven to be a draw. But he gives them chances because I guess they remind him of himself or the way he thinks he was. Who knows. But he has always liked both guys and it is why he kisses their ass.
Tops of says
He likes them?thats why he kisses they’re ass… Lol… Your arguments are just hilarious…it’s a good thing you did not become a lawyer…
No Dana is having a hard time dealing with people who are real life tough dudes…I remember how uncomfortable he looked in videos when James toney was bugging him non stop….he looked harassed lol….
BrainSmasher says
If I had to argue against people of your IQ. I would be the next Thurgood Marshall.
Im sure Dana looked harassed. Dealing with anyone in boxing is beneath him. Especially a stuttering mush mouthed fool. Or as you boxing fans call him. A “Legend”! You guys do not set the bar very high do you?
He seemed to handle Diaz just fine when he went off on him after missing that press conference. Sure as hell wasn’t scared like you claim. Also Diaz vs Penn didn’t break 300K buys. His Condit fight didn’t break 400K. I know those buys are unheard of outside of 2 boxers. BUt those are not great. He was never a draw and has never been a draw. HE has a cult following whose Demo cant even afford to purchase a PPV.
Like I said before. Dana White made Anderson Silva. He was always a horrible draw and the UFC went out of their way to give him a huge push and use all their tv and marketing resources to promote him. That was because Dana White is his biggest fan. He says it in every Vlog he does.
Tops of says
Beneath him.? Hahaha…he was scared.that’s the reason..and does not know what to do because he was afraid of confrontation especially in front of his ufcfanboys disciples like yourself where he projected himself to be foul mouthed tough guy promoter(thats why fanboys look up to him)and toney came to Dana’s own show and bug him….embarassing
aintitthetruth says
White knew he had to give toney what he wanted, even if the outcome of his couture fight only served to validate what everyone knew all along. And he had to pay a relatively high amount to shut him up because of the legitimacy conveyed by his multiple world titles. White is dirt compared to toney.
aintitthetruth says
The best part of that whole thing was when king mo said he saw toney sub dean lister. pro wrestling baby. FOR LIFE haha.
Diego says
“White is dirt compared to toney.”
You can’t be serious. Toney has turned himself into a complete joke. White, for all his faults, runs the most profitable fight promotion in the world. If White is dirt, I’d like some for my garden.
