MMA Fighting reports that the UFC 162 Prelims received an average viewership of 1,363,000 viewers for a rating of 0.96. Due to the stunning knockout of Anderson Silva, Fuel TV saw an increase in its post-fight coverage with 214,000 viewers for a rating of 0.42.

FX won its time slot not only on cable, but it’s 1.19 rating in the Male 18-34 time slot beat all network programming as well between 8 and 10 p.m. The 1.46 in Males 18-49 saw FX finish second in that time slot among both cable and network programming.
Not only did the post-fight coverage do well in ratings, but the weigh-ins also did well on Fuel as it received an average of 119,000 viewers for a 0.27 rating.
Notably, Chris Weidman’s last fight against Mark Munoz on July 11, 2012 scored 211,000 viewers, a lower amount than those tuning into watch the post-fight aftermath after winning the title.
Payout Perspective:
The ratings for 162 are slightly above the 1.3 average for prelims on FX. The prelims were highlighted by Gabriel Gonzaga’s quick KO of Dave Herman. The ancillary programming for UFC 162 meant that the marketing backing Chris Weidman helped with more viewers keying in on the weigh-ins to see the face off. Certainly, fans were not disappointed. The post-fight show viewership shot up due to the event and it was likely sparked by those that may not have watched the PPV but heard news of the KO. This bodes well for FS1 and its programming when the UFC moves to Fuel.
Nice. I need cable so I can get on the free fight gravy train. Root is what I want most though with their regional coverage. I hardly watch fights anymore unless I buy the dvd. I don’t like the new dvd special features so I usually don’t. The ufc 40s and 50s were the best. The preifight and postfight interviews were great. I wouldn’t have known mike kyle bit wes sims on the chest to get out of a guillotine otherwise. I thought it looked weird then bam teethmark backstage. This in depth fighter things are boooring.

You can argue that Haye should get some decent coin because he is at least a 2 division champ. But Price hasn’t done anything noteworthy in the ring other than be big and loud. Price is roughly the equivalent of Gabriel Gonzaga or Roy Nelson – he can look like a world beater when you hand-pick his opponent but has serious flaws which the top guys can exploit. The fact that he can make that kind of money based on his resume (no known HWs, one known cruiserweight) which is more than any HW in the UFC is embarrassing.

Greedy Boxers take so much money they it isn’t even profitable for TV networks to even carry their fight. We have heard the same thing from Showtime. There is little meat left on the bone because of Boxers purses. Just as matter of time and it will all come crashing down.
When was the last time Boxing did a Fan Expo and had 70+ of the best boxers in attendance to meet the fans? Oh, that’s right. None of the Boxers would ever put up the money to make that happen. That god we have the UFC that allocates funds to keep the sport great and gives back to the fans.
Boxers don’t have to pander to the fans. And it’s cheap tv networks which are to blame. Gotta pay to play. why do you think boxing gets away with a 70 dollar fee? Cuz people will but it instead of going to UfcCOn or whatever it is. Those cons are for geeky and or obscure things anyway. Heavyweight championship is the most prestigious. Naturally they would get paid more. mma is way behind. Just another example of the ufc being out of step with reality.
