Variety reports on the UFC’s newest broadcast contract in Latin America. As we reported, the deal allows Televisa the right to exclusively distribute UFC programming in 20 Spanish speaking countries.
The launch of the channel comes at a time when it is reported that 12 million viewers in Latin America watched Cain Velasquez fight Bigfoot Silva on Televisa Deportes Network in Mexico and Golden Channel in the rest of Latin America. However, the report from Variety may have incorrectly described last year’s main event as it writes about Velasquez leaving Silva in a pool of blood (which did not happen this year).
Regardless, the Variety report adds that Televisa will have its exclusive distribution of UFC content prior to the launch of the UFC’s premium pay subscription based channel across Latin America.
Via the UFC press release announcing the launch:
Viewers all across Latin America, except Brazil, will have access to Championship fights and over 35 live events per year as well as the opportunity to experience legendary fights from the UFC, PRIDE® FC, WEC® and Strikeforce®; equaling more than 20,000 hours of content. The UFC Channel will also feature original programming such as reality series, all broadcast in Spanish.
Payout Perspective:
The faulty facts in the report might lead some to be somewhat skeptical as to whether 12 million viewers watched the Velasquez fight this year. The gist is that it wants to get across is that the UFC is popular in Latin American countries and that people will gravitate to watching UFC content and many will pay for the UFC Channel. As we highlighted before, this move into Latin America is a key part of the globalization of the sport. We will see how it does versus boxing in many of the countries where that sport is very popular.

I think MMA will be third or fourth (behind soccer and boxing and in some countries baseball), but ahead of everything else. That’s not bad.
Sampson Simpson says
Not bad.
Still a ways to go until they can reach the 25 million to 37 million viewers boxing does
Chris says
Great news, UFC blowing up down there, Brazil and now Mexico.
Fox, Globo and Televisa, UFC doing big things.
Sampson Simpson says
If the UFC is “Blowing Up”, boxing has been experiencing a nuclear holocaust by comparison in Mexico.
The UFC will have 4 shows annually on free television in Mexico. Between Televisa and TV Azteca boxing has 40+ shows generating 20 million viewers regularly.
What’s with these nit wit UFC fan boys acting like they landed on the moon?
Tops of says
Yeah and when pacman fights the whole Philippines watch him……UFC fans are again starting the global domination countdown hype……won’t happen…hahaha..
Sampson Simpson says
The UFC always touts non-massive things as “massive” and non-huge events as “HUGE” which is pretty funny. It’s easy to always claim fastest growing garbage when you started at ground zero.
The best is when their stupid ass fans regurgitate the phrases claiming it’s overtaking. boxing when in reality, the UFC is probably about 10% of boxing when you take a world’s perspective.
Rookies… smh.
Donaire can do 30% ratings share let alone Pacquiao. Didn’t Pac-Marquez draw 37+ million viewers in Mexico yet 12 million is “big things”? Hahahahaha how ignorant
Tops of says
When would UFC fans start thinking for themselves instead of just being followers to the Dana white UFC hype machine….Dana’s is like the “pied piper” and the fans would follow him….
Chris says
Good for boxing, only retards like you try and make comparisons, boxing does great in Mexico, they run shit down there, boxing and soccer own Latin America.
But the UFC is starting to take off as well and thats good for the sport, nobody said its overtaking boxing or shitting on boxing, thats you making the comparisons cause you have to hate on the UFC.
UFC doing big things, tv deals all over the world, great news for the sport and the fans.
Haters gonna hate.
turd says
hey guys i travel alot , ive been in the phillipines when pacquiou fights, the country literally shuts down the day he fights its like the super bowl here.
Tops of says
Dana started the whole boxing is dead statement in mid 2000….now that facts reveal that it is so far from the truth…..your going to say “nobody said its overtaking boxing or shitting boxing” lol…. You got led on to beleive by Dana White….follow his every word……follow….follow…hahaha
Chris says
I dont give a shit what Dana said years ago or what Rogan said years ago, what about what all the boxing fans/promoters said? That mma was a fad and would be gone in a few years?
Hows that working out Tops? But cornballs like you and Simpleton talk shit. Both sports are great, both sports are doing good right now.
Fact is I said UFC is doing good and this a good thing for the sport and you and simpleton came in on that hating shit talking about how boxing is so much better and bigger.
Sampson Simpson says
Truth = Boxing is 10X bigger on a world scale and will ALWAYS be 10X bigger on a world scale.
So “big things” in the UFC’s world is small potatoes in the boxing world.
Tops of says
It’s good you admitted that Dana and rogan said such things…lol…..instead of nobody said anything……and dana was the one who started the whole rivalry and UFC fans believed him….and would continue to beleive him whatever he says…
Chris says
trolling trolling trolling, Simpleton and Tops be trolling, trolling on this site all daaaayyyyyy.
