MMA Weekly reports that ratings for the UFC 147 Prelims on FX scored 1.3 million viewers. The rating is in line with the UFC Prelim average since the UFC-Fox deal.
It is being reported that more than 20 million viewers in Brazil watched Saturday night’s PPV.
In addition, MMA Junkie reports that 1.3 million viewers tuned in for UFC on FX 4 on Friday night.
Via MMA Junkie:
The event was the second-highest-rated show on cable in its timeslot among male viewers. Additionally, along with its presentation of “Iron Man” beforehand, FX was the highest-rated cable channel of the night among all viewers 18-49 and men 18-34.
UFC on FX 1: 1.3 million
UFC on FX 2: 1.4 million
UFC on FX 3: 1.1 million
UFC on FX 4: 1.3 million
Payout Perspective:
The ratings on FX were solid but did not move the dial. In comparison to Friday’s FX event, WWE’s Smackdown scored 2.97 million viewers on SyFy (via MMA Supremacy).
Saturday’s prelim numbers were good considering that many did not know the fighters on the prelim card. If the 20 million viewers figure is anywhere near correct, its a big coup for the UFC internationally as it appears that UFC 147 was geared specifically toward the Brazilian audience as the card lacked many North American names and Rich Franklin was just a late add. Also, Mike Russow, the other notable non-Brazilian was KO’d early in his bout.
Jose Mendoza says
Payout Exclusive: UFC on FX 4 Prelims on Fuel TV scored highest ratings ever with 160K viewers.
UFC on FX 4 Fuel Prelim Comparable Numbers:
UFC on FX 4 Fuel Prelims) 160K
UFC on FX 1 Fuel Prelims) 148K
UFC on FX 2 Fuel Prelims) 113K
UFC on FX 3 Fuel Prelims) 84K

You know things are not too promising when the best news in weeks is that the ratings have not dropped since last time.
BrainSmasher says
From your perspective maybe. These numbers didnt just not decline they increased back to the highest the UFC has had on FOX. I wouldnt call and event that will hit the 1 million PPV buys in two weeks bad news either.(Yes it will get around the 1 million mark. Silva/Belfort with no push or story did almost 800K). But you guys will see what you want to see. Funny to see so many people spend their time following a sport and put it down and root against it at every turn. Must not have much of a life.

The 20 milion reported viewers in Brazil is utter nonsense.
An MMA promoter down there made that tweet on twitter but the source link he posted had nothing to do with TV ratings. Since the article was in Spanish I guess he didn’t think people could use google translate to read it. After he made that Tweet suddenly MMA websites started repeating it as if it was fact. They don’t bother doing their homework.
Also, his twitter page was rife with comments that he was exaggerating the number. He said it got a 17 rating point but that rating point is closer to 10 million not 20 million. One rating point in Brazil is 630k people. 17 by 630k people = 10.7 million.
Machiel Van says
Updated ratings say 969,000 average viewers for UFC 147 prelims.

Who was this person on Twitter? I’d like to fact check your statement. Also, Globo Rede has in the past offered an official statement on viewership in the weeks after an event. They have confirmed viewership of 20 million before.

Shevron,
Can you link the article? I speak Spanish, I can translate it. I’m surprised though that the article would be in Spanish since they speak Portuguese in Brazil.
Diego says
BS,
It’s because we love the sport that we follow it so closely and critique it’s performance. And 1.3M (which now we know was an overestimate) was not the highest. 1.4M was the highest. At an estimate of 1.3M performance was roughly flat (tied for 2nd out of 4 events); <1M is low. Either way, viewership does not seem to be growing on a per show basis.
