UFC head Dana White went after boxer Floyd Mayweather, Jr. during his “Presidential Address” on Tuesday night’s edition of “UFC Tonight” on Fuel TV. White called Mayweather ‘racist’ for his twitter comments related to Jeremy Lin.
Here’s the video which was sent out in a release last night:
Mayweather’s manager, Leonard Ellerbe, responded to White’s comments (via Yahoo! Sports):
“He needs to shut the [expletive] up and mind his own business, stay in his own lane and keep on taking advantage of the UFC fighters, while underpaying them,” Ellerbe told Yahoo! Sports after learning of White’s rant. “If he keeps on running his mouth, we may decide to give a free seminar to all of the UFC fighters on how the pay-per-view revenue should be distributed. This is typical Dana, who is always prone to ignorant outbursts. He should be the last person to try to judge someone else.”
White responded to these comments by telling Ellerbe to mind his own business and that, “We’re (Zuffa) building a sport while you guys are destroying one. ”
Payout Perspective:
Before we get into the substance of the comments, I think its notable to point out that the comments were made as part of UFC Tonight on Fuel TV. The “Presidential Address” was sent out to media to promote the show. Its an interesting way to take advantage of White’s vlog/twitter rants. Certainly, he’s opinionated and his Mayweather comments have received attention.
As for the comments, White is a longtime boxing fan and was speaking his mind on the situation. Whether or not you agree with the comments, so was Mayweather. In fact, Mayweather’s twitter comments about Lin have propelled him back into the spotlight during a quiet time before his fight with Miguel Cotto May 5th. So, perhaps both White and Mayweather are one in the same. Both are receiving notoriety for being themselves.

A lot of MMA fighters are getting rich and being paid well off the UFC brand Dana and the gang pulled out of the gutter. Mayweather’s Manager makes his money off the name of the fighters. Most of the headliners in the UFC would have very few eyes on them without the UFC brand atached. We have seen how valuable that brand is to PPVs. So the UFC actually makes it possible for the guys with PPV cuts to make millions. Something they couldnt do on their own or in anyother promotion. What does Ellerbe bring Floyd that no other manager can? Not 1 thing. He takes away from their purse rather than add to it and wants to questin someone elses commitment to their fighters.
Dana is right about Mayweather destroying the sport. Oscar fought many huge fights and eventually passed the torch to Pacman and FMJ. Now FMJ refuses to defend it or pass the torch to anyone else. Boxing has been frozen in place for many years now waiting for this one fight that he refuses to do. This is the only fight mainstream cares about. Boxing should be trying to bring in mainstream fans as often as possible not avoiding the fights that bring them in. There is nothing in boxing anyone in MMA should look at. From the pay structure to the matchmaking it is all a recipe for disaster. No one wants to watch boxing anymore. No one wants to get into boxing and no one wants to teach boxing.

Dana and Mayweather are two trolls feeding off each other and best ignored.

Ah, circus theatrics. Let’s have Dana and Floyd “settle their differences” in a WWE match 🙂

MV,
Loser shaves his head? Oh wait…

Dana Yes you are a homophobic for calling people faggots. Just shut the fuck up would you.
BrainSmasher says
Since when does using that word make you a homophobe? Saying a word that isnt politically correct is not the same as hating those who are homosexuals. Not sure why people have to put a label of anyone who says something they dont like. It seems calling someone a racist or homophobe is nothing but a ploy to control and manipulate. Maybe before you slam Dana for not being tolerant of people differences maybe you should first tolerate his differences. Dana has said things to get under peoples skin in the heat of a arguement. But i have never seen anything to claim he discriminates against any group.

Yet Mayweather and Pac PPVs outsell any UFC PPVs by a HUGE margin.
Keep trying to wish away boxing with all your MMA fanboy crying.

They are personalities that sell. The sport of boxing doesnt sell. Do i really have to explain the difference? Both those guys can sell PPVs playing Paper, Rock, Scissors. Does that mean that game is popular or people just want to see those two guys?
There are small MMA shows all over the country blowing up with guys no one has ever heard of. Just to see MMA fighting. Boxig outside of those two doesnt sell PPVs, tickets, tv ratings, etc. Look at tv ratings in the US of boxing compared to MMA. There will always be a guy or two in boxing people like. But interest in the sport as a whole from top to bottom is declining.
Sampson Simpson says
Why don’t you look at the ratings.
Nothing outside of the 4 FOX shows per year will break 2 million viewers.
Boxing on HBO, a premium channel that costs $15 per month averages 1.5 million viewers for boxing.
In Mexico it regularly breaks 20 million viewers.
In Germany it regularly breaks 10 million viewers.
Brainsmasher is an uneducated Zuffa fan boy that doesn’t know anything.
yup says
brainsmasher what a corny name
BrainSmasher says
LMAO!!! You compare the biggest events on HBO with free tv MMA events. How old are you? Let me explain this to you slower. The HBO events that you are talking about are probabley the 5-10 biggest events of the year in boxing outside the few PPVs that sell worth a damn. The MMA events you convienvently compare to boxing is like the 20-30th biggest events behind the UFC PPVs. So yes the 5th biggest boxing card sqeeks by the 20th biggest MMA card in ratings. Congrats on your morale victory.
I see as a saving grace to your arguement you again bring up other countries which i nor anyone else is even discussing. If boxing dies in the US no one will give a damn that anyone else still does it. Especially not a North American MMA site that talks about North American sports and Business.
