UFC 138: gate, attendance and bonuses

November 6, 2011 by Jason Cruz 2 Comments

MMA Junkie reports that attendance for UFC 138 drew 10,823 for a gate of $1.5 million. In the main event, Mark Munoz stopped Chris Leben due to a cut after two rounds.

According to the report, without an athletic commission governing, the figures will not be verified by an independent party.

In addition to the attendance and gate, the UFC announced its bonuses for the night. Each received $70,000.

Knockout of the Night: Che Mills
Submission of the Night: Terry Etim
Fight of the Night:Renan Barao vs. Brad Pickett

Payout Perspective:

It was interesting that the UFC chose to start its five round main events with this one. Munoz and Leben are heavy hitters and brought the action in the first two rounds. I didn’t think that they could continue the pace for five rounds. The crowd was hot for the main event and clearly behind Leben.

One observation of the main event last night was the doctor checking on Leben’s eye during the round. It appeared that the doctor stated they would stop the fight if he couldn’t see out of his eye. Then, it appeared that there was no tests to check his vision. They merely asked whether he could see or not. Of course, Leben would say yes with the alternative being ending the fight.

Yeah that was not OK. At first he couldn’t see then he was asked whether he could see again or something and as you state obviously said “Yes!”.
The ref should have let the doctor handle that entire episode!

Agreed. I watched the fight live and the referee seemed to think he was a doctor as well. It was Marc Goddard I believe.
Goddard orders the doctor (not the cutman) to clean off the blood so that he, not the physician, can determine whether to continue the fight.
The referee then asks a leading question, and Leben obviously chooses to continue the fight. Rogan cited the same issue during the broadcast.
Goddard then orders the doctor out of the cage. Why bother having him there in the first place?

Yes, the Pulitzer-winning journalist is the source we should ignore, not the people who continue to want access to the LA sports team they cover. This was a dumb thing to think and an even dumber thing to tweet.

Many years ago, I made a joke on twitter about Chiesa. It was reported that he was drunk in the octagon at a show and had to be escorted out or something.

I tweeted: “Classic Mike.”

That was it. No tagging him. That was it. It was just a joke 🤷‍♂️.

Anyway, years later I was
