No Blackout: Direct TV-Fox settle its dispute

November 1, 2011 by Jason Cruz 3 Comments

The NY Times reports that the Direct TV-Fox carriage dispute was resolved a day prior to a blackout of Fox regional sports networks, FX, Fuel and other Fox-owned cable channels. The new deal between DTV and News Corp. (Fox) includes Fox and Fox News Channel.

Direct TV was concerned with losing popular FX shows, “Sons of Anarchy” and new hit “American Horror Story.” The “Sons” creator Kurt Sutter filmed a public service announcement that aired last week during a “Sons” episode against Direct TV.

The public dispute occurred over the proposed retransmission fees between Fox and DTV.

Via NY Times:

DirecTV publicly resisted the higher rates proposed by News Corporation. Privately, DirecTV also contested the very notion of bundling the channels together, a common practice in the industry.

Payout Perspective:

No word on the terms of the contract although it includes “Big” Fox and the Fox News Channel. The new contract means that the UFC’s transition to the Fox Family should occur without any unnecessary breaks. This helps with networks like Fuel and FX which will house UFC content. It also will help with Jay Glazer’s new UFC show on Fuel.

In other blackout news, it looks as though HD Net is off of Rogers Cable. A big hit for Canadian MMA fans as it will be without Inside MMA and a lot of the great regional MMA shows HD Net provides.

I enjoy Fox Channel-I think that Fox is very informative. The programs are very good. It just gives us TV viewers another choice. Please keep Fox. What channels are next.
