UFC, St-Pierre to Meet Canadian Government Tuesday

May 3, 2010 by Kelsey Philpott 2 Comments

MMAPayout.com has learned that Georges St-Pierre will be meeting with high-level Canadian government officials on Tuesday as part of a UFC-led contingent to advocate for the legalization of mixed martial arts at the federal level.

The push undoubtedly comes as the result of the fact that two of the UFC’s next three PPV events will be held in Canada: UFC 113 in Montreal and UFC 115 in Vancouver. The greater the publicity surrounding these next two events, the greater the pressure for the Canadian Government to begin the process of amending Section 83 of the Canadian Criminal Code to exempt mixed martial arts from being considered illegal prize fighting.

More details to follow.

I hope he is persuasive…I don’t know how much it will help.

Regulation of MMA rests with the Provinces, not the Federal Government.

Ultimately, the fate of the sport rests with MPP’s, not the MP’s.
