MMAPayout.com Announces New Managing Editor

August 24, 2009 by Staff

Today MMAPayout.com officially announced Kelsey Philpott as its new Managing Editor.  Philpott has been a contributor to the site since May 29, 2008.  He is a graduate of the I.H. Asper School of Business at the University of Manitoba with a degree in Finance and International Business and is currently pursuing an MBA specializing in Sports Business from the University of Oregon and its Warsaw Sports Marketing Center within the Lundquist College of Business.

“I am excited about Kelsey’s expanded role with MMAPayout.com,” said Adam Swift,  Executive Editor of the site. “Kelsey is a bright guy and astute observer of the MMA industry, I am confident that he will continue the tradition of MMAPayout.com as the authority on the business of MMA.”

“It’s an honour and a privilege to be named Managing Editor,” said Philpott. “I’m truly excited about the challenge of maintaining  MMAPayout.com as the source for news and analysis of the business of MMA.”

Philpott replaces Robert Joyner who resigned earlier this month.

“I am sad to see Robert go, but I understand his decision,” said Swift. “He was a tireless contributor to the site and remains a good friend. His contribution to MMAPayout.com, all 1,154 posts, are greatly appreciated. ”

“The highlight of my time with MMAPayout.com would have to be  both the business and personal friendship that was forged with founder Adam Swift,” said Joyner.  “I would like to thank him for extending me the opportunity to add to the site’s legacy.”

Interesting - in the early 2000s, HBO had to defend "de facto" promoter allegations in front of Congress. If DAZN uses licensed promoters to organize the fights, it's hard to call them a "promoter." SRL signed deals with ABC and HBO without having a promoter, so it's been done.
