The debut of Premier Boxing Champions in network prime time scored with a 2.53 rating and 5 share in overnight ratings on Saturday night in the 9-11pm ET time slot.
UPDATED: 12:24pm PT 3/8/15 – According to Television By Numbers, PBC from 8:30pm-11pm ET drew 3.13 million viewers and a 1.0 share rating among adults 18-49. Overall, CBS’ 48 Hours earned the most viewers in network viewership Saturday night with 4.65 million viewers 10-11pm.
Last night’s debut of Premier Boxing Champions on NBC posted a 2.53/5 overnight & was highest-rated sporting event from 9-11p ET (2.67).
— NBC Sports PR (@NBCSportsPR) March 8, 2015
Overnight rating for PBC on NBC increased every half hour & peaked at 3.01 from 10:30-11pm ET for final 6 rounds of Thurman-Guerrero bout — NBC Sports PR (@NBCSportsPR) March 8, 2015
It was the most watched show for Adults 18-49 in network ratings on Saturday. Of course, the competition was very slight on Saturday night.
NBC Sports also tweeted out the top 10 markets for PBC on Saturday which in order were:
1) Norfolk
2) Cincinnati
3) San Antonio
4) New Orleans
5) Fort Myers, Florida
6) Sacramento
7) Dayton
8) Orlando
9) Philadelphia
10) Tulsa
For point of reference, January 2015’s UFC on Fox 14 drew 2.82 million in overnight viewership and received a 1.1 rating and 4 share.
Payout Perspective:
No actual viewership estimates are out yet, but MMA Payout will update once they are made public. The ratings are not “over the top” for the debut of PBC in prime time on NBC but its likely to have won the night for the network. Despite the ok debut, I am sure that Al Haymon’s strategy is not dependent on just one show. There were things that worked and did not work last night and we shall see how those will be addressed.

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
What happened to those impressive numbers???
This shit bombed considering the money thrown into it!
The first card is always the biggest! The numbers will continue to go down.
Adrien Broner the savior of boxing! The next Mayweather! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
jack says
I don’t see how those aren’t impressive numbers. Over 3 million households by the end of the night? Thurman vs Guerrero was fucking awesome. What would have been a success to you then? Over 4 million? It did MUCH better then UFCs last card on fox so please explain.
FightBusiness says
First off. what the fuck is “a share”. No one knows what a share is. According to PRELIMINARY ratings it averaged 3.1 million viewers (link below). That already matches the UFC ratings which has been on for two years. Now remember averages always increase by at least half a million viewers once final numbers come in and this also doesnt include “peak” viewership either. With little promotion its an extremely solid number that will only grow. Already better than 95% of UFC events on Fox. Spare me with the first UFC event numbers. It featured The Heavyweight Champion and it was promoted heavily by the NFL. Boxing was barely given a commercial.

JamesG says
The post is comparing apples and oranges, 2.5 is a household rating not comparable to the UFC’s 18-49 rating of 1.1. That same metric for the boxing was a 1.0, but should adjust up some in finals though.
saldathief says
Not bad for free, its just a fact that more people watch boxing then mma. The show was over produced a bit imo. They have some work to do. You didn’t get the feeling that everyone was about to wet their pants like a UFC show!!! Was actually a nice relaxing night of the science of boxing.
Shadess says
Who cares it’s higher than for UFC? Boxing has been around for a long time while MMA is “new”.
It’s not guaranteed anywhere it will just grow. Also that show was much more expensive than anything UFC puts out there so it needs to do much better numbers.
Your “haha mma sucks” -reasoning sucks.
d says
Hey jackoff, the UFC’s debut did much better, not to mention the demo that they are bringing in is not the 18-45 demo, it is the senior citizens. This was not good by any means and Haymon knows it.
Chris says
Ok numbers, around in line with UFC on fox numbers. Bigger the names the bigger the numbers, like UFC. Thought announcers were terrible, Marv/Ray were dead in the booth, that needs to be fixed and Broner fight sucked but other than that its good to have boxing on network.
For comparison here are the highest UFC on Fox numbers
Fox 1 5.7 mill
Fox 2 4.7 mill
Fox 5 4.4 mill
Fox 6 4.2 mill
Fox 7 3.7 mill
Fox 10 3.2 mill
Fox 14 3 mill
d says
FIghtbusiness, this was promoted to death and it didn’t match the UFC’s debut numbers. Nice try fucking idiot!
FightBusiness says
D- LOL. MMA fans argument that boxing only draws geezers and MMA is so huge among young people is officially DEAD!. As you can see below they both draw about a 1.0. in the 18-49 demo. LOL. MMA fans just yell louder becuase they have autism and are more insecure. And by the way Boxing on network just started. Sadees stop it with your MMA is new bullshit. Its been around for 20 years and MMA fans yell its bigger than Boxing all the time. If thats the case you should have bigger numbers. Yes it will grow. People are catching on that MMA is the devolving of fighting not the evolution. Dry humping is what you do when no one can kick you in the face and you cant stand up and fight. Check out the huge MMA 18-49 demos below. LOL

This just in: Roc Nation signed Cotto to a 3 fight 50 million deal. LOLOL. “But that cant be right FightBusiness, Only Pac & Floyd make money in Boxing. BAHAHAHA

d says
HAHAHA!!! Cotto runs his own promotional company. Let’s add in what the UFC brings in for the fights and then talk. HAHAHA!!!
The only boxers that get paid are in their mid to late 30s and are on their way out!
Boxing is for senior citizens!!!
HAHAHA!!!
saldathief says
D has no clue and is a google, yahoo sports analyzer hand job. Boxing is doing what boxing does, creating huge stars, and the UFC is creating? oh wait nothing, but not to fear Brock might be coming back, bahahahahah
Logical says
By the time they tally/update the ‘final ratings’, they will be a little higher. This is on par with UFC Network numbers–therefore I am not impressed–UFC numbers have been pretty mediocre. I do believe they will get better in time as opposed to the UFC’s numbers getting worse over time. Boxing has more potential as far as wider acceptance with the general population, It’s still dormant with a newer generation and still trying to regain its old network base pre-PPV, so the only way is ‘up’.
d says
Saldaqueef is a career retard that can’t spell, add or think. He sucks Bob Arum’s dick on a daily basis and is a boxing welfare to work troll who hates the fact that boxing lost their grip on the domestic market share years ago to mma.
Adrien Broner who loses to tune up fighters and gets his ppv’s scrapped and moved is his last hope! HAHAHAHA!!!
I can’t wait to hear what the gate was for this turd floater!
d says
Logical with his illogical argument. It is the opposite, as bad as this showing was for a debut, it is only going to get worse. MMA’s audience will grow because the youth mostly follows mma and could care less about boxing. The boxing audience is old and dying out. The writing is on the wall. It is simple evolution.
pureincognito says
Not a good debut, and will go down from there as is usually the case. You won’t get a much bigger name than Broner on free TV.
Pink Pig says
Not great numbers. Better than UFC’s most recent FOX numbers.
Should be interesting to see how CBS does this year as well.
The Greatest says
Danny Garcia vs Lamont Peterson with Andy Lee vs Peter Quillin will be a better card on April 11th.
jesus is coming says
Wasn’t ufc first debut on fox cain velezquez vs dos santos?!! heavyweights and cain was top 4 name in ufc …. how can you compare keith thruman and guerreo welterweights who is not even top five known in their own divison popularity wise with the top hw in ufc lmaooo anyways why are we comparing enjoy both sports ….
Pink Pig says
Deontay Wilder vs. whoever will likely bring in some heavy numbers
saldathief says
wow almost 50 posts on boxing with the 2 articles, well lets see the mma stuff Chirp Chirp crickets
d says
HAHAHAHAHA!! Look at them all try to spin it!! Boxing trolls hate the reality that this failed miserably!! They lost tons of money on this and will continue to do so. Haymon is banking on the long run, but it won’t work! HAHAHA!!!
d says
Jesus is coming, Velasquez-Dos Santos weren’t the top draws in the ufc when that fight happened. There were several fighters who were doing bigger ppv numbers. UFC on FOX 2 also defeated this easily and that had zero titles on the line.
tops E says
Oh no…when the discussion is mma pay…theres nothing to talk about…its really low…yawn
Jesus is coming says
Cain was coming off that Brock lesnar win and the hottest name In the ufc plus it was heavyweight title fight …
d says
Haha. The hottest name in the UFC? Delusions. GSP/Silva/Jones, etc were bigger. Cain had never been an A headliner yet. His biggest ppv as an A was in the 380k buys.
Jesus is coming says
He just beat brock lesnar buddy that fight was hyped like no other smh there is reason why ratings never reached that level again …. Jones wasn’t more popular than Cain at that time .. I like how you put etc
d says
He beat Lesnar, but that doesn’t make him a big draw. Jones had several ppvs around that time that did over 500k buys, Velasquez was only involved in 2 fights that did over 500k buys and both times he was the B. He couldn’t even break a million buys with Lesnar, what does that tell you? I put etc, because there were several other fighters at the time who were bigger names and bigger draws than Velasquez. Dos Santos is a bigger draw than Cain.
I like how you dismiss the fact that the UFC had several shows on FOX that outdrew the debut for PBC, not just the opener. This fight bombed big time. You do realize that these fights are losing money with the goal of drawing big viewership to get an actual deal with one of the networks and not a buy time deal, right? They have to do big viewership numbers consistently. The debut is going to be the biggest show most likely- they had big names on the card. Unless they have Ward fight GGG or another fight that big, I don’t see how the ratings are going to grow. They should be averaging around 5m viewers, instead, they are going to be averaging lower numbers than the UFC does and they don’t have the same control over the 18-49 audience that the UFC does. This has disaster and massive financial loss written all over it.
Pink Pig says
3.4 million average with a 4.2 million peak. Solid start for boxing on NBC. Spike and CBS are on deck.
http://nbcsportsgrouppressbox.com/2015/03/09/debut-of-premier-boxing-champions-on-nbc-is-most-watched-boxing-broadcast-since-1998/
saldathief says
wow D tries soooo hard! hahaha Boxing makes world history again and Rousey made UFC history, well kind of! bahahahhaa
d says
3,4m average solid start??? HAHAHAHA!!! Those are toilet numbers for a debut with Broner, and Thurman vs. Guerrero. The UFC which you guys have trashed, destroyed this in their debut. HAHAHAHA!!! Look at Sal squirm.
The numbers are only going to continue to decline. This is going to cost investors/promoters tons of money.
Broner the next Mayweather, the savior of boxing!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
Logical says
“The PBC on NBC telecast averaged 3.4 million viewers.”
“Viewership increased every half hour through the telecast and peaked at 4.2 million.”
“The PBC on NBC also led NBC to a Saturday primetime victory among Adults 18-49, with a 1.08 rating in the demographic.”
It’s a good start, you have to take into account that this was a pay-to-play so the Network did not promote the show that much, once they get behind it then you’ll see the numbers increasing.
The Greatest says
The UFC put two heavyweights on their first card and D you’re a moron if you try to play off JDS vs Cain as not a big deal.
Broner is not the next Mayweather and Thurman and Guerrero arent big names either.
So 3.4m with it peaking at 4.2m is good for who fought.
I feel they will also go up with the next shows.
People liked what they saw.
By the way the numbers arent fully in so these numbers are expected to be higher by the end of the week according to Dan Rafael.
FightBusiness says
UFC on Fox 14 was the highest rated show the UFC did in a year. It averaged 3 million and peaked at 3.6 million.
Boxing does a 3.4 average and peaks at 4.2 million. Thats half a million more damn people and a recognized true champ wasnt even featured. The only legitimate argument an MMA fan boy has is that maybe there will be a decrease in viewership but i honestly dont see that happening I actually see an incease of half a million across the board. Garcia Vs Broner, garcia vs madana, Thurman vs Amir Khan would be FUCKIN HUGE.. Khan vs Garcia. By the way GGG loves fighting 5 times a year so once he beats a big name star you can expect three big ppv’s from him annually. Thats 2 million annual buys just off of him. Can you imagine GGG on network vs Chavez Jr. Thats 6 million average.
saldathief says
Stop it! D is a moron pos and you cant change that with any facts!
here is a great video of Dana talking about boxing!!
http://espn.go.com/boxing/
d says
HAHA!! THE GAYEST!! THE STALKER OF STALKERS!!!!
UFC on FOX 2 had zero title fights idiot and still beat this bullshit failure PBC had. HAHAHA!!! For a debut to shit the bed like this is a really bad sign. The numbers will continue to go down and this costs the promotion millions on top of millions unlike the ufc.
I know Broner isn’t the next Mayweather, that was idiotic shit you used to say you freak, idiot! HAHAHA!
UFC on FOX ratings> PBC on NBC ratings.
Now we see why NBC would only do this if Haymon literally paid them for it.
HAHAHAHA!!!
d says
Fightbusiness you stupid fucking idiot, this was the debut!! That is why the numbers are going to go down. This is standard for something like this. The debut is typically the biggest numbers. It’s killing idiots like you to see this turd they just put up. The UFC’s first two shows beat this easily with far less overhead involved!!
Eat that shit boxing fagboy!!!
d says
SALDAQUEEF!! Professional retarded homosexual for Bob Arum! Paid in food stamps. HAHAHA!!!
