Demand lagging for UFC 174 tickets

June 13, 2014 by Jason Cruz 20 Comments

Tickets are still available for Saturday’s UFC 174 taking place in Vancouver, British Columbia.  According to online ticket search engine SeatGeek, tickets on the secondary market are one of the cheapest in 4 years.

With an average resale price of $175, UFC 174 is 9th cheapest ticket on the secondary market since 2010.

In comparison, the last UFC event in Vancouver was UFC 131 in June 2011(dos Santos-Carwin).  Tickets on the secondary market at that time went for just $101.  But, you may recall that Brock Lesnar was to face JDS as part of the TUF Finale.  Thus, this could be the reason for the cheaper tickets on the secondary market.  Notably, a light heavyweight by the name of Chris Weidman was on the prelim card of that event.

In terms of UFC PPVs in Canada, UFC 149 in Calgary (Faber-Barao) was the most expensive ticket at $362.  This was even more than the big UFC 129 show (GSP-Shields).

There are still tickets available through Ticketmaster.  In fact, seats on the secondary market are selling below face value.  For instance, SeatGeek has found floor seats priced at $264 on the secondary market with the face value on the floor at $300.

For those wondering, the capacity at the Rogers Centre for Saturday’s event is 18,630.

Payout Perspective:

Why are June PPV cards such a hard sell?  Annually, it seems the June PPV card comes out as one of the least viewed of the year.  It’s clear that UFC 174 is not in demand.  This can be due in part to the card as well as the fact that the big card is July 5th at UFC 175.  With tickets still available through Ticketmaster (as of late Friday night) and some areas selling below face value of the ticket, one might expect it a challenge for attendance to be close to capacity.

This card shouldn’t have been behind a paywall. Buyrate will show it, now ticket sales will too. 1 year ago this would’ve been a FOX card. The novelty has worn off in Vancouver and the fans there are very educated.

The UFC won’t be able to pull this off anymore in the Canadian cities they’ve already been to. The new ones – yes…. But then again didn’t the Quebec City TUF finale card do poorly with live gate?

I love it how the trolls are jumping all over this low profile ppv. If it was a major ppv and the sales were low, then you may have a point, but no one expected this to do much.

The crowd in the arena sounded pretty quiet last night. It probably didn’t sell out.

I like Mighty Mouse it’s a shame he can not be a PPV draw.

Yeah Sal, the UFC needs to rebuild. That’s why they did a ppv 6 months ago that went over a million buys. You are a real genius.

Haha. 2014 is history in the mind of someone who sucks Arum’s nuts on a daily basis. In reality though, their biggest fights are coming up and they will definitely beat Froch and most likely Cotto-Martinez.

What’s the matter, hasn’t Uncle Bob taught you about liabilities vs assets?

Yea Half a billion in liability bahahaha What assets does the UFC have re runs of TUF bahahaha Re runs of UFC 174 bahahaha oh wait trading cars bahahaha I hope the UFC pulls something good off oh wait the big one Edgar and BJ really lol GSP Spider would be a good one But the life span of a UFC fighter is about as long as a TUF season or 2. Still waiting for D Cruz to come back, too bad he’s only good for 300 ppv if that anymore and he’s one of the best! UFC has only done 7 ppvs over a million since 2006 Froch Groves and Cotto combined will smoke the top 2 or 3 UFC ppvs in 14. Eat that along with your curry Daaruk

Your ramblings are incoherent, probably because you are preoccupied with Arum’s nuts in your mouth.

Have you changed your diaper yet tonight, you geriatric?

You are drooling. Haha. You must have gotten raped in India or something, what is with the India fetish, you freak? Is that what diaper wearing diabetics dream about? Numbers don’t lie, but queefs like you and Arum do, only difference is Arum actually makes money and you are his welfare slave you queen.

Oh so now you are changing your tune. I thought Froch was going to beat any UFC this year? Now you are saying only some of the top fights. Already backtracking you idiot. Gonna be funny when they beat the fight of the century from the UK. Haha.
