MMA Junkie reports the attendance, gate and bonuses for last night’s UFC 164 from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The new lightweight champ, Chad Mendes, and Hyung Gim Lin and Pascal Krauss were bonus recipients.
Here is the breakdown of bonuses with all receiving the standard $50,000:
Fight of the Night: Lin-Krauss
KO of the Night: Mendes
Sub of the Night: Pettis
The attendance for the event in Pettis’ hometown drew 9,178 for a gate of $907,116. The first trip to the Bradley Center at UFC on Versus 5 drew 6,751 for a gate of $539,000. Chris Lytle defeated Dan Hardy in the main event in August 2011.
Payout Perspective:
MMA Payout will have more on Saturday’s event in its Payout Perspective. The obvious headline of the night was Anthony Pettis ascension to the real “Showtime” and the top spot in the Lightweight division. One must wonder if the fact that after several successful defenses, Bendo deserved this spot: defending in Pettis’ hometown and then learning that he’ll likely not get a rematch.
BrainSmasher says
I don’t see how Bendo deserves any special treatment. Wasn’t Bendo and this venue already booked and Pettis was a later replacement? IF so it isn’t like it was their place to make him fight in Pettis home town. If you are the champ that isn’t supposed to matter. Also I hope we don’t go down that road of every champ gets an auto rematch. Its one of the things that sucks about boxing. Its one thing when it is a huge run by a legend. Its another when it is run of the mill champ. Bendo has only beat 3 different fighter during his title run. That isn’t nothing special. Almost every champ in his division before him did as good and didn’t get an auto rematch.

Only bendo and bj penn beat 3 diff opponents. You are on crack when you say almost every champ did as good. Especially when there were only four before him. Edgars the only other one worth mentioning and he had that draw in there to soil his record. Bendo definitely deserves a rematch.

Not a good gate for that card, on paper it didnt have huge names but it was a dam good card. Plus you had your hometown boy fighting in the main event.
Should have atleast done 12k for a 1.3 mill gate or so.
Was a fun night though with the fights delivering.
aintitthetruth says
If pettis was a heavyweight it would have exceeded those expectations. i suspect the card sold modestly. maybe 200k+. I guess we will have to rely on the wizard of ppv meltzer to dazzle us with his unique insight… man this card hard some good heavyweight action. otherwise it would have sucked.

How many champions across all of the divisions have had three consecutive defenses? Not many. most guys are a flash in the pan. its a real treat for fans when a fighter brings stability. Of course, white is a douchebag so him not getting one wouldn’t surprise me
BrainSmasher says
You are right. Not many have won 3 defenses. But how many have got an auto rematch without being due to controversy? Penn got one only due to controversy vs Edgar. Anderson Silva is the ONLY one to ever get an auto rematch. Not Tito Ortiz, Chuck Liddell, Couture, GSP, Matt Hughes, etc.
If Bendo would have won the first fight then there would be some precedent in a auto rubber match like Arlovski got back to back title shots for this reason. But no one has an auto rematch just because they lost. Let alone lost 2 times vs a guy. When the UFC was at its thinnest in a division they would at least make then win 1 fight before the rematch even if it was a bum. IF nothing more than the illusion of earning the rematch. LIke Couture vs Mike Van Arsdale before getting a rematch with Chuck and Hughes having to face Lytle to get a rematch with GSP.
aintitthetruth says
Get Henderson a can to crush then. dude has took nothing but tough fights.
BrainSmasher says
I would agree if there wasn’t deserving people in line and or Bendo was a big draw people demanded to see. As it is it isn’t a great match up. HE got owned in every second of the fight and there are guys who have already been promised a shot. If he fought the Winner of Melendez/Sanchez(His win over Melendez was controversial) I would be ok with him getting the next shot after Pettis fought Grant. If the UFC doesn’t set up Pettis vs Aldo which I would be in favor of.
aintitthetruth says
Gsp didn’t have three defensea when he lost to serra. neither did couture when he lost all the times he did. hughes? they gave him what they thought was a gimme but charuto almost beat hughes… ufc has practically buried that fight.lytle was also a gimme.I’m not sure who “etc” are. likely they don’t exist. You are willfully ignorant to the fact that henderson was one of the best champs the ufc has had. if consecutive title wins matters.i think gil would stomp pettis.
duck says
GSP fought Josh Koscheck then replaced an injured Serra to fight Matt Hughes for the Interim WW Title, then he got a rematch with Matt Serra, hardly the same thing.
LW has been bogged down with rematches, with Frankie Edgar fighting Penn, Maynard & Henderson 2 times over his title reign, Benson has lost two times to the champ, when’s the last time someone got a title fight against someone they had went 0-2 against.
aintitthetruth says
When gsp lost his title to serra he hadn’t defended the title three times so
he deserved a tough matchup. henderson deserves a gleisan tibau/dos anjos type of fight.
aintitthetruth says
People are calling for a maynard fight. but maynard had his shot at the title and needs a win to reesttablish himself. of the top flight guys the only one who deserves a crack at henderson is tj grant. and that’s ONLY cu Pettis is on the shelf. its just bad luck for grant. With that being said grant should fight melendez and thompson should fight maynard. maynard and thompson are so far out of contention its ridiculous. no one wants a melendez thompson 4. A loss to melendez wouldn’t put grant too far back since some think he beat henderson anyway.
