UFC 163 attendance and bonuses

August 4, 2013 by Jason Cruz 2 Comments

MMA Junkie reports the attendance and bonuses for last night’s UFC 163 event taking place in Rio de Janeiro Brazil. Bonuses were $50,000 each and the attendance at the HSBC Arena garnered 13,873.

The bonuses for the night were as follows:

Fight of the Night:  Ian McCall-Illiarde Santos

Submission of the Night:  Sergio Moraes

KO of the Night:  Anthony Perosh

Payout Perspective:

Perosh the biggest surprise out of the announced bonuses was the 40 year old Perosh as he was an underdog to Vinny Magalhaes yet scored a quick KO which may mean the end for Vinny.  The attendance number seems high considering the amount of empty seats that you could visibly be seen on the PPV.  Lack of gate number may infer that they do not want the actual paid to be compared to the attendance figure.

Interesting - in the early 2000s, HBO had to defend "de facto" promoter allegations in front of Congress. If DAZN uses licensed promoters to organize the fights, it's hard to call them a "promoter." SRL signed deals with ABC and HBO without having a promoter, so it's been done.
