XFC extends tv deal with HD Net

July 16, 2011 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

MMA Weekly reports that the Florida-based Xtreme Fighting Championships (XFC) has signed a two year deal with HD Net with an option for a third. HD Net will air eight to ten XFC events starting in 2012 with the possibility of more fights in 2014.

Via XFC’s web site:

According to XFC President John Prisco, “We are very excited to continue our partnership with HDNet and look forward to putting on many more exciting fight cards for ‘HDNet Fights’. In addition to the Saint Pete Times Forum in Tampa, we are looking to add the Mohegan Sun to our schedule in 2012. We are also looking at coming back to the great State of Tennessee where we have had a lot of success in the past.”

In addition to a new television deal, Prisco has brought in some new partners that will bring a lot of experience in promoting MMA and will help the XFC become the #2 MMA promotion in the world.

Payout Perspective:

The television deal is a good step in the right direction for the XFC as a promotion and for MMA in general. While we all know that the UFC is the top dog in the industry, there are some good regional promotions out there but most casual MMA channel flippers don’t get the chance to see it unless you watch the highlights on Inside MMA. With the constant cutting of UFC fighters, regional promotions have a shot to sign some quality talent. It will be interesting to see what XFC does to take advantage of its television deal.
