UFC Undisputed 2010 Trailer Featuring BJ Penn

March 15, 2010 by Kelsey Philpott Leave a Comment

THQ and the UFC have released a brand new trailer on IGN.com advertising their up-coming UFC Undisputed 2010 video game that features UFC Lightweight Champion BJ Penn. The game is set for release May 25th on Xbox 360, PS3, and PSP.

Payout Perspective:

Call me a geek, but that trailer gave me a few goose bumps!

It’s not that I’m looking forward to the game as much as I’m simply looking forward to seeing if it can help build the same sort of interest in the UFC brand that last year’s game seemed to spark (I hold out the same hope for EA MMA and Strikeforce, as well).

These games are more than just ancillary revenue streams for the UFC or Strikeforce; they’re tools for promoting and teaching the sport that happen to perfectly align with the preferences of youthful MMA demographic. More so than any commercial on television (which is usually skipped), advertisement in a magazine (that few people read), or banner ad on a website (that is completely ignored), the target audience is going to spend hours upon hours interacting with these games at 100% attention.

Moreover, the amount of marketing launched at gaming consumers will essentially double as event marketing for these promotions. Every time the UFC uses its new game to simulate one of its up-coming fights, there’s a dual marketing effect there. Likewise with EA and Strikeforce.
