Boxer Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr. has been suspended indefinitely by the Nevada and Arizona athletic commissions as a result of his refusal to take a VADA drug test prior to his fight with Danny Jacobs this past December.
As you may recall, JCC refused to take a drug test at his training gym in Southern California. He filed a lawsuit in Clark County, Nevada against the state of Nevada claiming that the commission did not have jurisdiction over him at the time that requested the drug test since he did not have a license to fight at the time. A trial court granted a temporary injunction for JCC which allowed him to obtain a license to fight Danny Jacobs in Arizona. Yet, when JCC attempted to seek a permanent injunction, it was denied by the trial court and his case was dismissed. He has filed an appeal with the state appellate court. As we’ve outlined, the case mirrors the one filed by Wanderlei Silva and Chavez has the same attorney retained by Silva for that case.
Payout Perspective:
JCC will have a chance to address the suspension as his case is scheduled to be on the Commission’s agenda at its next meeting August 5th. JCC’s pending litigation may determine the outcome of his career. Its unlikely that the suspension will remain indefinite but one might see it being a long suspension considering his refusal to take a drug test prior to his fight.
