Jon Jones arrested, charged with DWI and negligent use of firearm

March 26, 2020 by Jason Cruz Leave a Comment

Albuquerque, New Mexico station KOAT first reported that UFC lightweight champion Jon Jones was arrested on charges of driving under the influence, negligent use of a firearm and possession of an open container early Thursday morning.

Police responded to shots fired and found Jones sitting in the driver’s seat of his car but denied shooting a gun.  Jones stated that he had been driving earlier and intended to drive.  He consented to a sobriety test and “performed poorly on it.”  He tested above the legal limit twice when given a Breathalyzer.

Jones was charged with aggravated DWI, negligent use of a firearm and possession of an open container. It’s Jones’ second driving while intoxicated offense.

Additionally, Jones was charged with battery as a result of an incident at a strip club in New Mexico.

Payout Perspective:

The above infractions are just the latest to a list of issues Jones has had with law enforcement.  Despite trying to be a better person, it appears that Jones’ demons are creeping back.  While its clear that Jones needs help, its up to the people around him to help him rather than enable him.  It’s easier written than performed especially for an incredible talent like Jones.  The problem is that he’s hurting his own legacy.  Drinking and driving is a serious charge and I can understand people having a bad opinion of Jones who professes to be religious.  While this latest charge will likely be mitigated, one can’t help but think that despite the façade, he’s spinning out of control.
