MMA Payout has learned from a Nielsen source that UFC Fight Night 45 airing on FS1 Wednesday night received an average viewership of 640,000. The Prelims which preceded the main card on FS1 scored an average of 415,000 viewers.
The viewership is comparable to the past Wednesday night shows. In January, UFC 35 from Duluth, Georgia received 629,000 viewers with the prelims receiving just 220,000. In April, TUF Nations Finale from Quebec City received 641,000 viewers with the prelims doing 263,000 viewers.
Payout Perspective:
Maybe it was the lack of promotion or the fact that it wasn’t hammered into fans’ minds that it was on a Wednesday, but I thought there would have been more viewers. This is due to the fact that the Wednesday after the MLB All-Star is considered the slowest day in sports. The day has been co-opted by the ESPY award show but UFC Fight Night was the only live sports programming occurring on national television. The prelims did do much better than the previous Wednesdays. It’s likely that the viewership did boost the average Wednesday viewership for the network.

“The viewership is comparable to the past Wednesday night shows.”
How is that down exactly?
Good show with some good fights. I was surprised to learn that that was Cerrone’s first main event considering the caliber of competition he’s faced.
Logical says
Wow, now these are Bellator numbers. I missed the card, i heard there were some great fights, but what can you expect when the UFC runs events as often as Mr. White says the word F***.
Dana White: This is exactly what we F***ing wanted!! Hey INTERN! throw me some numbers on MS PAINT so i can show the media some hardcold facts on our global domination strategizing thingy.
Pink Pig says
I wonder what UFC fan reactions would be today if Pink Pig Dana was more modest and humble about his product over the years. I doubt they would be so critical of the org
D says
Logical, if their global market is doing so poorly, explain to me why they have a massive contract with Globo in Brazil and why they can do million dollar gates in Australia with headliners who have lost a combined 5 straight fights and are no where near the top ten in their division?
Saldathief says
Global market lmao, the only real market is the USA, everyone knows that. Promoters would die to get shows in the usa, Doing one show a year in Aus doesn’t count. Brazil could be huge but guess what, the live shows do shit in Brazil. Funny millions came out to watch the world cup and only 8k or so come out to UFC so nice try. News flash Brazil is a broke ass country, people that do have money don’t watch MMA. They have slums there you wouldn’t believe!!! Sure their economy is growing but nothing like the standard of living in the USA. Im sure you will google a bunch of data but Ive been there!!
Pink Pig says
“Global Market” is the biggest joke of a term to describe the UFC’s ability. I mean… Seriously these weirdos citing a handful of countries calling it “GLOBAL”??? Ahahahahahaha
Million dollar gates in Australia??? Ahahahaha. Isn’t the minimum wage like 3X/4X what it is in the US. This Lil jerk off touting nonsense.
Froch-Groves 2… $10.2 million gate. That’s international juice.

Payout needs to start banning these trolls. They are killing the site and repeat the same troll garbage from article to article with no business coming here. It’s even disrespectful to those of you who are writing articles and putting in your time. Ban these trolls so fans of the sport can enjoy the site and have honest discussion in support of the sport not trying rooting for its demise. They bring the worst out of everyone else in the process. You have to stoop to their level to argue because its hard to ignore the top 5 comments on every article.
Rob says
I agree with BrainSmasher. This is utterly ridiculous. These people are not adding anything insightful to these discussions. They are incessantly vulgar and offensive. They have the same talking points in every post. They clearly don’t care about or support the “business of MMA” which is what this site is about.
I used to frequent this site daily – weekly to get my mma news. However, now that these discussions have turned into a complete farce (with elementary arguments at best), I rarely visit or comment. I understand this isn’t a huge operation by any means but if anything can be done to restore the dignity of the comments going forward, it would be greatly appreciated. I hope we are all capable of having a healthy argument about the business of MMA, which is why all of us SHOULD come to this site. Most of the comments on this article are not as bad as others get but something has to change because I see no point in visiting this site any longer if they continue with the denigration of others.

It has nothing to do with views inline with DW. It has everything to do with contributing to this site and the articles in a positive way. You do t not provide constructive criticism or even an opinion of what they do wrong and what better way to go about it. You just troll with one negative comment about the sport or the UFC after another.

D says
Sal, you are a very ignorant individual.
I urge you to start investigating information related to your comments prior to you making them.
Brazil is a broke country? They’re GDP is ranked 7th in the world. Haha. You have no idea what you are talking about. If you think you know more about the economy of Brazil or any other country in the world or anything to do with domestic or international politics or finance, please present a topic. It will be a one sided embarrassment. Brazil no longer has IMF loans to pay off. The West does not control their economy anymore. The nationalized most of their natural resources. Do you comprehend the significance of that? It means they are no where near a third world country anymore. Do you know what their import taxes are? They are insanely off the charts. 100% tariffs on most goods coming from the US. I know this because I do business with people in Brazil all the time. Why is that? You have no idea about any of this information. I suggest you stand down little man.
Also the UFC shows in Brazil do very well. Have you seen their ratings? Millions of people watch them on Globo. The UFC has a massive contract with them. You are just fabricating everything you say. Soccer is the most popular sport in the world and trumps anything including both boxing and mma. It isn’t even close. To compare the two is absurd.
By the way, I’ve been the one telling you how the international market is nothing compared to the US/Canada. But if we are looking at how the UFC is doing abroad, it is very good in certain markets-markets that boxing hasn’t done very well in.
D says
Brainsmasher and Rob are correct. The one thing I would point out though is that it really isn’t that many people. It is most likely only 3-4 trolls just using multiple accounts.
BrainSmasher says
Back to the article and the UFC ratings. Of course it would be great to have higher ratings. But the UFC is consistently beating MLB on FS1 and even TBS if I remember correctly. Those are games with all players with million dollar contracts, in a over 100 year old sport. Fox is paying 500 million per year for those rights. The first year on FS1 baseball couldn’t break 500k viewers. Puts in perspective what the UFC was able to do on the network.
Now the best news IMO is the big picture. From my perspective I see a fox that is in this for the long haul and has given no indications of any other plan. I see a UFC who at the same time has also tempered expectations and have expected this same period to be a restructure period of the sport. You can’t flood the market with events and triple your roster with unknowns and not take a dip in numbers. They are not stupid. What we are seeing is a deliberate saturation of the sport at a time they have planned ahead and prepared for it. What better way to get this 300 extra names out here and built their records and the reputation of the new divisions? What better time to do it when Brazil is booming, FS1 is a new network, fighter contracts are relatively low?
Now when the period is over. The reward is great. The UFC divisions will be deep. Which means it will be moving away from the theme of the past where title contenders were lucky to be on a 3 fight win streak. We are seeing that already with multiple guys on long streaks. When was the last time two big name guys fought in a non title fight on like 5 fight streaks like Miller vs Cerrone? What does it look like to a casual fan to see a guys with 10 loses fighting for a belt or a guy who lost in the last 12 months? That will change. The fighters in every division will be known and respected. The UFC can finally start puttin money back into marketing the events. Something it seems they have cut way back on during this rebuilding faze. The real question is when will the rebuilding be over? And what path will the UFC to from there? Cut events back? Stay with PPV? Leave PPV? As long as fox doesn’t get weak and pull the plug on fs1. I see no problems for the UFC and going down this road.

Gambino says
Brazil is not booming, their economy is actually on a decline. That’s why there was all those protests during the World Cup. These numbers wouldn’t look so bad if they weren’t trying to make every card into an event. Is it really necessary to have a pre and post show plus prelims for every show? And does every fight have to be in some large NBA or hockey arena where they’re only selling the lower deck? Eventually these UFN shows will become what ShoBox and Friday Night Fights are to boxing. Less relevant shows in smaller arenas where they’re trying to build up fighters and showcasing veterans in tuneup fights. If they just package these shows for what they really are then people would not have such a negative viewpoint.

Hey D look up what the minimum wage is in Brazil and then look up how much a gallon of gas costs you fuck tard you have no idea what you are talking about. The average person in Brazil lives in poverty, he genius if Brazil is so great why did the Gracies start the UFC in the USA???? and why do all of them live in America?? Dughh such ignorance.. And BS yea the truth hurts we don’t buy all the UFC lies and propaganda.

Brazil fight gates are good???? what planet are you on ???
03/23/2014 UFC FN 38 Natal, Brazil ? 6,828
02/15/2014 UFC FN 36 Jaragua, Brazil ? 7,511
11/09/2013 UFC FN 32 Goiania, Brazil ? 10,565
0/09/2013 UFC FN 29 Barueri, Brazil ? 6,621
09/04/2013 UFC FN 28 Belo Hor., Brazil ? 5,126
these numbers suck!!!! I guess the millions of people watching TV in Brazil don’t feel like going or don’t have the fucking money to go, which one is it D??????? Can you find that on google?? Your data is flawed by something called reality and government and big business propaganda,
D says
I know what the per capita income is. I don’t believe I ever claimed that there weren’t poor people in the country. You said THE NATION WAS BROKE. You don’t know what you are talking about you dumb fuck. You have no concept on the relevance of anything I said, which is what proves what kind of moron you are.
By the way, how is the Mexican economy? The Mexican economy is beyond atrocious. Much worse than Brazil and it is one of the best international markets for boxing you dumbass.
Why do you think Rorion Gracie started the gym in Torrence idiot? Probably because there is more money in the US by far as opposed to anywhere else. What is your point? Why didn’t he go to your beloved UK? You are such a stupid fuck that has to fabricate what other people say just to appear to be coherent.
Again, you have to completely fabricate because I destroyed you with knowledge on the subject and you are grasping for any straw imaginable. I never so much as mentioned anything about the gate numbers in Brazil, but even if I did, you just posted attendance numbers and not revenue- you know, the thing that counts the most. Plus, you also only listed UFN numbers. You didn’t address the fact that literally over 10 million people in Brazil have watched fighters like Silva and Belfort on tv there.
Give me some gate numbers for Mexican fight cards, I’m sure those gate numbers are through the roof. Globo pays the ufc tens of millions per year ya stupid idiot.
Go back to jerking off to karate guys breaking boards you fucking faggot.

Complete fabrication. There economy over the past ten years is better than it has ever been in their history. Once they paid off those IMF loans they become independent economically. The protests at the world cup are being conjured up by the economic powers in the west. They did the same thing in Venezuela to Chavez, but it didn’t work. The people aren’t as stupid as we think they are.

Yea D you look like a total fuck stick bahahha shit gate numbers with no revenue reported bahhaha they gave away the door you knob. Brazil is a loser look at the numbers bahahha idiot. No sense arguing with a fool like you. You have nothing and prove nothing. 2 bucks an hour min wage if that, most business pay under the table, go walk around San Palo your dumb ass will get robbed in 10 seconds. Try to google your way out of an ass kicking and a mugging. Clown Why do you bring up mexico, has nothing to do with the topic you fart bag. Your a google loser with no real usful information, like a 5th grader doing a report. What does karate have to do with anything either. Your a fucktard and its so pathetic bahahaha
D says
Again, never mentioned anything about the gates, you are delusional. And you provided no gate numbers other than attendance for ufn card’s not ppv cards.
You know nothing about anything. You have the intellectual capacity of a field mouse.
I proved your dumbass wrong. You don’t know basic information about these subjects, yet you spew your bullshit that no one believes other than maybe your troll companions. You cowardly refuse to respond to any of the facts I presented- no surprises of course.
Why did I bring up Mexico? I don’t know maybe because it is the perfect analogy for why you are a moronic, cock sucking faggot!!!
Keep bullshitting yourself like you know something. You said Brazil was a broke nation. HAHAHAHA!!! 7th highest GDP world wide. Laughable.
You are the biggest idiot on here. You’ve proven you know nothing about the following topics: mma, boxing, the business side of both, ppv, tv ratings, revenue generated from both ppv and tv, the cost of production of both, how to run a business, basic business practices, taxes, tariffs, world finance, world politics, domestic finance, domestic politics, organized labor, corporations, dividends, organized crime, the separation between local, state and federal law enforcement, the FBI, maintaining a healthy life style, exercise, eating properly, proper hygiene, getting laid, learning that mullet’s are out of style, being aware that karate board breaking demo’s are a laughable joke and getting out of your parent’s basement at the age of 50.
May God have mercy on your pathetic soul.

Its funny that D is talking about global markets.
The same D who I told boxing dominated over-seas and to which he replied “The US is all that matters. Worldwide doesn’t mean shit”
But now all of a sudden the world means something?
Brazil is the only market that the UFC can really tap into outside of US and somewhat Canada.
Brazilians don’t stand with the UFC, they stand with their fighters and since BJJ and the Gracies were the beginnings of the UFC, it makes some sense on why they have some interest into it.
But take Silva away and they tend to not give a shit.
Brazil to the UFC is 1/25th of what Mexico is to boxing.
Way more passion and fans in boxing for Mexicans than MMA with Brazilians

D please google and post Brazil numbers and gates in the last 2 years!! Remember Brazil doesnt pay for ppv. Please post the great numbers and gates in Brazil.

Yeah, I know they don’t pay for ppv fucking idiot. I mentioned the viewership for tv. You do realize that Mexicans don’t pay for boxing ppvs either, right dummy?
Over 10 million have seen guys like Belfort or Silva fight for a given event in Brazil.
