MMA Mania reports that Quentin “Rampage” Jackson claims that the UFC misstates its PPV numbers to its fighters. Jackson’s statement is part of the on again, off again relationship he has had with the company.
In an interview with MMA Heat Jackson indicated that Zuffa is taking advantage of its fighters by telling the fighters one number on PPV buys while representing to the press a higher number. This affects fighters that are receiving a percentage of the PPV buys. Thus, the claim is that UFC is not paying its fighters with PPV upside in their contracts the true PPV buys.
Payout Perspective:
Sour grapes by the outgoing Jackson? He was really mad that he was prevented from wearing Reebok, a new ‘Page sponsor, but he wore it anyway. He even held his shoe up to the camera before entering the octagon. His PPV claim probably perked the ears of Bellator’s legal counsel in its current litigation with Eddie Alvarez. As we know, PPV buy rates are an issue and Jackson’s statements hold him out as a potential witness for the lawsuit. It also holds him out to potential liability if Dana White, et al. want to sue Jackson for defamation. UFC can sue, if it wants to disprove Jackson’s statements. But, with the UFC usually holding its numbers close would it be willing to do it to prove that in a public lawsuit?
Jeremy Lynch says
Rampage is claiming he was paid less than what the UFC reported to the press. Problem is the UFC has never reported numbers.
So Rampage is saying the he was paid less than what Dave Meltzer reported.
As I understand it, all fighters with a PPV cut can request an audit. If Rampage feels he has been underpaid, request an audit.
Brain Smasher says
Yeah i can count how many times Dana White has hinted at PPV buys on an event on 1 hands and have fingers left over. Jackson is just a nutcase and should be locked up. Im not kidding either. The guy has a very scary personality. Its sad. I used to be a big fan of his. But he is a greedy self centered dangerous scumbag of a person.
What is even worse is he is being two faced about the whole situation. He is on video shaking hands and getting a long fine with Dana to his face like nothing is wrong and as soon as someone puts a mic in his face he makes up every lie and cry baby comment he can think of to put them down.
Even if he did feel like he should get paid more. I think the UFC has done plenty for him for him to take the high road and keep his mouth shut and just leave. He has made a lot of money when after the UFC bought WFA and Pride there was no other options for him to get paid. They got him out of jail and made those troubles go away. They made him a big name in this country which he was a nobody. If he can get more money else where then shut up and leave. But he is the last one who should be insulting the UFC. BUt this is how big of a scumbag the guy is. This is a guy who makes videos making fun of japanese girls teeth and rape instructionals on youtube. sexually assualts female reporters. Insults every fighter even legends when he was a guest announcer at King of the Cage. Never got along with his coaches and trainers or even training partners. It wasnt long ago he was complaining Bisping was cheap and didnt pay his sparring partners enough. The guys is always bitching about money and is never happy.

The UFC should just go ahead and admit they aren’t matching any offers made to Rampage. There is obviously no point in giving him any leverage in negotiations with other promoters by saying the UFC will match any low offers. Let someone else deal with Rampage’s B.S. over money when he isn’t making nearly what he is in the UFC. I can’t imagine how much he will complain about money when he is making a fraction of what the UFC is paying him. If I’m a promoter there is no way I’m even thinking about picking this guy up. The headache won’t be worth it.

That’s not an overraction or anything. Christ almighty, take it down a notch or two.
He is not happy with his compensation and isn’t afraid to talk about it. That’s fine. He’ll soon realize that although he may not have been making as much as he wanted (who does?) he was making more than he will anywhere else (unless somehow his acting career takes off). But whatever, it’s his life and he’s making his choices. No need for everyone to get their panties in a bunch.
As for the validity of his claim. We’ll never know for sure because Zuffa won’t release the numbers but I highly doubt that it’s true. It’s fraud if it is, and very easy to prove. The Fertittas are too smart to play that game.

Over reaction? I don’t think so. Go watch his unchained docu and see all the people he puts down to make himself feel better. Typical bully behavior. Then go watch the videos on YouTube how he treats females and then His video of how to rape “gurls” in a parking garage. Only his sick mind would think of something like that and when added to his treatment and views of woman. It suggests he is a very disturbed and dangerous person who already has a history of crazy actions and bad judgements. It didn’t surprise anyone when he went on his Rampage in his truck and no one will be surprised if and when he does anything else against the law.

Just let it go Quinton. You made millions and millions of dollars with Zuffa, and according to you, you’re done. Let it go.

I feel bad for Rampage. His erratic behavior is probably a sign of brain damage.
The UFC is still young, so there aren’t many old UFC vets out there. But give it another 10 years.
There are MMA vets out there with brain damage, but so far not one of UFC’s former stars.
Rampage does crazy, irrational, paranoid things because his brain doesn’t work properly.
brewer says
Are MMA media reading this wrong on purpose to avoid the harsh truth?
This clearly indicates that the MMA media (Melzter) are reporting PPV buy higher than what they actually are. Dana said it himself, Rampage has audit rights. The numbers he sees are the real ones. The numbers we see are inflated.
Tops of says
Nah rampage is correct in one aspect.but it’s not because the UFC lowers ppv number to fighters but just hypes the one they send to the press.rampage should come out with the numbers so we would all know what the true ppv numbers are.remember Richard Schafer challenge Dana white to open his books just to prove the ppv numbers are rigged and Dana did not respond….it’s time Dana s spin machine goes down?
Brain Smasher says
Dana almost never mentions PPV numbers at all. So i dont k now what kind of spin you are talking about. As someone who runs a business. I would never release my PRIVATE information just because someone clown “challenged” me. Its not even a challenge. Its just a trick and Dana isnt stupid enough to get dooped and give this guy or anyone else what they want.
Tops of says
A spin is using media outlets to bring out ppv numbers so you won’t be legally accountable. When people like meltzer releases numbers if they are incorrect the company should correct it.hbo is a private company as well.and whatever happened to Dana jumping off the building when the numbers reach more than IFC 100.he did not jump now did he.but made insinuations that it indeed reached more than UFC 100.ive been telling this before.now that they are with fox they cannot hype the ppv…the truth will finally come up
Jake says
HBO is owned by Time Warner which is a publicly traded company, they are legally bound to put out accurate #’s.
UFC is private and don’t release #’s because they don’t have to but they never refute the numbers put out by Meltzer, I’m sure if he was low balling them we would hear about it. If he is inflating the #’s then he is just doing their promoting for them.
Chris says
When does the UFC officially release PPV numbers? When does Dana ever say we did x number of buys for a show?
Meltzer gets estimates from teh cable companies, Rampage probably takes them as factual numbers released by the UFC, lol I know but its Rampage.
Rampage also has audit rights to go through the books which he hasnt done, do you think if he was getting ripped off he wouldnt have his people go over the books?
This is just Rampage talking shit, not hard to see.

Rampage claimed the UFC cheated him by not giving him his cut of real PPV sales. Rampage didn’t claim they are lying to the media and fans and over hyping their sales. That tells us what is really happening just in thilat distinct difference. By him saying he is cheated. He is also saying he hasn’t done the audit and is believeing an outside source as what the numbers are. This would also mean the outside source, who ever it is, has inflated numbers for that event.
But that would only be true is there is actually some truth to what he says. I don’t believe him at all. Because like Chris said if he felt he was cheated he would have his lawyers and manager at Zuffas door in two seconds. This is rampage and money we are talking about here. The guy is just making stuff up. He is about to make another stupid decision in his life and is trying to justify the decision by making himself believe all kinds of crazy stuff. This is the same guy who claims he should get paid more as a washed up fighter who can’t win than when he was champ and winning all the time. He really can’t understand why he makes less now than when he was champ. The guy is a nutcase and it’s pretty easy to see through everything he says.
Saldathief says
Just another example of an athlete who has no idea how business works, not that he is suppose to know, but its quite common. The UFC can claim any number it wants publicly, even their payouts can be complete lies, which they are half the time. I’m sure somewhere in the 500 page contract written by 25 lawyers it says everything a fighter needs to know, problem is it takes 25 lawyers to translate it into understandable english. Both Jackson and the UFC are equally EFF’D UP!
Tops of says
It’s called pr spin.you don’t release anything officially but let your media friends release the numbers.the IFC won’t refute the said numbers and the public would be led to believe that it’s true.basic pr 101.Soits wrong and unfair to compare boxing ppv qhich are released officially from a publicly listed company to an unofficial UFC ppv release
