MMA Junkie reports on Bellator’s “Vote for the Fight” promotion set for its debut on Spike TV in January. The first fight on the new network will feature the fight picked by its fans.
Via MMA Junkie:
“Vote for the Fight” is a “web series” that premieres Thursday at Spike.com. It will follow four of the promotion’s top welterweights, and fans then can vote for the fight they want to see in the Season 8 premiere’s opening fight in January. Paul Daley, Ben Saunders, Douglas Lima and Jon “War Machine” Koppenhaver are the four fighters profiled in the web series and on the ballot.
Payout Perspective:
This promotion, announced Friday and close to November’s election, is a good tie-in for its premiere on Spike as it draws viewers to have a say in its programming. Not only is it interactive, it gives them a chance to learn more about the backstory of the fighters. Viewers have been interested in the “24/7” aspect of “behind the scenes” with athletes whether it be boxings, MMA, basketball or football and the web series should get those new to Bellator a chance to develop a following for its fighters.

May as well do it this way. Bellator has the worst match making i have ever seen from any promotion in the history of the sport. Fans couldnt be any worse.
The way they are promoting War Machine and him getting out of prision is a disgrace. I was started to enjoy their product then i run into that crap. They continue with it i will not watch it again. IFL got hell for using bloody images on their promo. But Bellator is going to interview War Machine from Prison and show him talking about getting back at those who put him in there? What a joke. Bellator is trying to come off as Ghetto fights or someone.

Prove me wrong! They cant even built anyone. All their contenders keep getting beat. The only way they can get a opponent for their champ is by default because the tournament does it for them. Someone makes it out of it and gets the shot. There is rarely match making and where there is it blows up in their face. Why do you think Tyson beat their champ? Because they are to stupid to see it being possible. How about them bring in Travis Wiuff and get their champ lay’ed and Pray’ed? Their champ hasnt fought since that fight over a year ago. They are horrible match makers.
JUICE says
You’re right; they can’t built anyone. Like Joe Warren, or the Pitbull brothers. How about Michael Chandler? Askren? Pat Curran? Yep. Bellator can’t built anyone. No one gives a damnn that Wiuff beat a middleweight who masquarades as a lhw. It just goes to show you that Bellator has got room for growth.
Brain Smasher says
Their champ got beat by a dead end fighter which killed their champ, their divisions cred, and then they killed Wiuff when they put him in their tournament.
Now you are trying to credit them with building those fighters with their match making skills? LMAO Michael Chandler was created by the randomness of their tournaments. They only hand selected 3 fights for him. His first 2 vs a 2-2 guy and a 2-6 guy. And his last fight with journeyman Gono. LOL not exactly competitive fights.
Bellator has no hand selected 1 single fight for Pat Curran. Every fight he had was in a tournament except the 2 title fights he was garenteed by winning the tournaments as it was automatic title shot. They never set anyone of those fights up with their so called match making.
Bellator has only set up 1 fight for Askren. All his other fights were in tournaments or predetermaned because someone else won a tournament and got an automatic title shot. The only match up they ever set up was him vs Goat Thompson.
They only set up 1 fight for Joe Warren.
They never set up any fights for Patricio Freire and only set up 2 fights for his brother. One of which he lost.
To sum things up. The guys you named have had 41 total fights in Bellator.Only 11 were set up by a match maker. That means Bellator hasnt created anyone. They put some good record fighters in a tournament and someone has to come out as a winner and have the perception of credibility. Then he gets an automatic title shot. Thats how it works.
To show how random and dependant on luck tournaments are. Most of the champs. All crowned by tournaments and defended against tournament winners. Rarely defend their belt successfully a couple times. They crown the luckiest fighter. Not the best fighter. Of course that luck doesnt last. Alverez only had 1 successful defense. Chandler and Curran have never defended yet. Warren lost his first defense.Askren has defended 2 times nearly losing one to Heiron. Zach Makovsky lost his first defense. Dantas lost his first fight after winning the belt. Conrad has only defended once.
Bellator is just a collection of random, often meaningless fights.

K.
Bellator is exciting because these guys are hungry. You got Dave Jansen for instance who used to wait tables in Portland. He wrestled for awhile at U of Oregon then one day at 26 or 27 walked into the doors of TQ and said I wanna fight. Now he is in the Bellator Semi finals and he is hungry. Just like the rest of the Bellator fighters. They wanna show they aren’t some number 2 to the Zuffa monopoly that absorbed the WFA, WEC, and Pride before it. I’m glad Bellator is with Viacom. It means hopefully Zuffa can’t get their mits on it.
Brain Smasher says
You might want to look up the term monopoly. You dont know what you are talking about. Why would the UFC want Bellator? Its a cheap copy of KOTC. They can outbid for any Belltor fighter they want. So what else would they want the promotion for? Anyway i will LMAO if Bellator sold their share to the UFC and Viacom have to work with Zuffa again.

BTW when you keep bring in no name guys some of them will have some talent. But thats not why most of their exciting fights are exciting. It is mostly due to huge mismatches. They are putting people in based on records not skill. So you get a lot of local posers in with true prospects. This is why the fights are “exciting” and there are lots of finishes. Why do you think Bellator has so many weird submissions that you never see anywhere else? They had 2 inverted triangles that have never happened before. The reason is the guys are not that good. Guys do things that you dont see in the UFC by higher skilled fighters and they get caught in weird submissions. This is what happens when you just throw random fights together with unknown fighters. Womans MMA is the same way. Exciting fights and finishes because there is a huge talent gap.
