Boxer takes ownership interest in Super Fight League

August 12, 2015

Boxer Amir Khan is getting involved with MMA sports franchise Super Fight League as a fighter and promoter according to a recent press release.

Super Fight League is an Indian-based MMA promotion that has started to promote fights in the United States.  It has partnered with a Washington State-based promoter to offer events in the U.S.  With its U.S. debut last October, the league has held 5 events in Tacoma, Washington.

Khan, who is Pakistani, continues his boxing career despite the new business endeavor. His last fight was in May as he defeated Chris Algieri.

Payout Perspective:

Khan is not the only boxer to take an ownership interest in an MMA promotion.  Last year, Manny Pacquiao purchased an ownership stake in Singaporean-based OneFC.  We shall see how much Khan will be involved with the promotion.  Perhaps he, like Pacquiao, is just diversifying his investments and providing his name for publicity.  Interesting enough, Khan, who missed out on a fight with Floyd Mayweather, would like to be Pacquiao’s next opponent when the Filipino boxer gets back in the ring.
