The Pro Wrestling Post: Wrestlemania 28 buy rate lowered again

July 1, 2012 by Jason Cruz 4 Comments

The Wrestling Observer reports that the WWE has once again lowered the reported buy rate for this year’s Wrestlemania.  The WWE now reports that WM28 garnered between 1.1 and 1.2 million PPV buys worldwide.

Initially, the WWE reported 1.3 million PPV buys and then lowered it again to 1,214,000 buys. For the second time, its recalibrated its buys to 1.1-1.2 million.  The final numbers for the event will occur when the company announces its 2nd Quarter earnings.

Payout Take: Lowering the buy rate expectations should be concerning for the company considering the big runup to the PPV.  The Rock headlining and the heavy amount of promotion for the event should have grabbed more buys considering its the company’s biggest annual event.  At this point, it can only hope to garner at least 1.1 million buys.  It will be interesting to see what this means for its earnings for the quarter.
