GGG signs with DAZN

March 8, 2019

Gennady Golovkin has signed a three-year, six fight contract with sports streaming service DAZN early Thursday morning according to Mike Coppinger.

According to Coppinger’s sources, GGG will be paid 8 figures per fight and twice a year.  The deal will be announced on Monday with GGG intending to fight in June.

ESPN reports that ESPN, Top Rank and PBC all courted GGG for his services.  DAZN offered GGG a home for his promotional company as well as the trilogy with Canelo.

Payout Perspective:

The move inches GGG closer to a third fight with Canelo Alvarez.  Last year, Canelo signed a deal worth $365 million for 11 fights over 5 years with DAZN.  The big question will be if and when a fight occurs between the two is whether the fight will take place on the $9.99 a month streaming service or on PPV.  One would think that the sides would be leaving money on the table without PPV.  Notwithstanding, the DAZN signing is huge for the service as it has bulked up its stable of fighters which makes a must for boxing fans to subscribe.
