UFC 214 Prelims draws 418,000 for an hour on FS1

September 14, 2017

The UFC 214 Prelims drew 418,000 viewers per Nielsen via ShowBuzz Daily.  The prelims on Fox Sports 1 were pre-empted for the first hour due to golf.

The main event on the FS1 prelims featured Sara McMann and Ketlen Vieira.  The Brazilian surprised McMann with an arm-triangle choke in the second round.

Payout Perspective:

Opposite college football and other sports Saturday night the partial rating (only 62 minutes on FS1) is not surprising.  It probably hurt that if you wanted to turn in and saw golf, they were unlikely to tune back in to FS1.  It is the lowest of the year and it does not bode well for the buy rate for this event.

    Horrible

Same thing happened to one of the ESPN Top Rank boxing shows, unfortunate. However, there was ZERO buzz about this ppv and I am not surprised at this rate. The UFC’s best days are behind, that is clear, one wonders what the future will be like from here on in especially if they go to Showtime.

The headliner was a guy who can’t draw, and then he dropped out. So yeah, I won’t be surprised if this doesn’t do well.

Sorry – I was thinking of 215. The same thing happened with the prelims – I think it was college golf or something.

Low profile fight combined with an issue of switching channels.

This is hardly the same situation that ESPN had, Lomachenko was fighting on a tv card for them and people still didn’t watch. If one of the UFC stars headlined the show, they would still draw a massive rating unlike what boxing did on ESPN which was a very disastrous number.

It’s going to be interesting when this new tv contract comes up and the UFC is bringing in and additional 200m or so more annually.

Yah d, since you’re in on the ufc board meetings, tell us what network is gonna pay that?? With these low numbers especially.

why do you waste your time with him FF lol

FF, no, I just have the ability to read and use common sense unlike you:

I actually low balled the number they are expecting to get which was 450m. If they hit that number it would be a nearly 335m dollar increase.

“On Monday, the Sports Business Journal put up a piece delving into the plan WME-IMG has for the new TV rights deal, and among other things, it includes a major price bump with the UFC seeking $450 million per annum for ten years.”
