Golden Boy says GGG-Canelo drew more than 1.3M buys

September 28, 2017

Golden Boy Promotions has issued a statement in response to the report that the GGG-Canelo PPV drew 1.3 million pay-per-view buys.  It refutes the report stating that it is “north” of the reported number.

Via Dan Rafael of ESPN:

“While everyone at Golden Boy Promotions and GGG Promotions appreciate the media’s recognition that the fight between Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin was an enormous success, the figure that is being cited by some news outlets is simply inaccurate. Not only are satellite operators and cable companies still in the process of compiling data, that number does not include online PPV sales through, Sony Play Station and Sling TV, which far exceeded any previous fight featuring Canelo or Golovkin. The bottom line is that we expect the final numbers to be well north of current reports, and we will make a decision on reporting those numbers when we know they are accurate.”

Payout Perspective:

From the last sentence, it’s not clear if we will ever see the final PPV buys as Golden Boy states it will “make a decision” regarding reporting the final numbers.  Still, the 1.3 million PPV buys is an overwhelming success and I would think that if the number hits 2 million PPV buys we will hear that information.

Hahaha. What a surprise, De La Hoya is lying.

Why would anyone ever take a distributor/promoter’s number? This is what they do. They make up numbers.

Lol like ufc when they say the numbers for a decent fight and never say squat for the other 99% of ppvs

Damage control d is putting in some OT lately

Yes, the UFC lies too. That’s why everyone collectively accepts Dave Meltzer’s numbers for the ppvs and NOT Dana White. Haha. Same thing should be applied here. De La Hoya is a liar. He fabricates every ppv number he has. He’s been called out literally every time he says a number.

FF loves ppv release numbers from promoters/distributors when they are not the UFC. Haha.

FF, the spin master imploding because he was dead wrong here.

This isn’t true number, just a gossip

“damage control D”….yep, I noticed that too. Been a good year for boxing, poor year for the ufc, which means D is on blood thinners……

  6. d on September 30th, 2017 10:37 PM

Only reason why it’s been a good year for boxing is because a mma fighter took over the sport. Hahaha.

Wil’s job on here is damage control, it’s why he perpetually t.rolls a mma website as a boxing fanboy.

More like mma fighter had to box to finally get paid and give the ufc some publicity since they have nothing going

  8. Wil on October 1st, 2017 9:16 AM

UFC has done absolutely NOTHING this year on ratings on numbers, it really isnt looking good, they cant continue like this. And D has tried to spin in it in every possible way and it is highly amusing lol….I notice he doesnt use the “boxing is dead in the USA” mess anymore, which was simply just to avoid talking about how BOOMING the sport is in Europe, Australia, Africa, Asia, etc etc

Will add ESPN to that list, top rank has revived boxing on the biggest sports platform

  10. d on October 1st, 2017 11:25 AM

Hahaha. Boxing paid t.rolls on full court press self destructing after their disappointing ppv number. By the end of the year, if we exclude- Mayweather-McGregor which the UFC was a part of the promotion for(without even investing a dollar into), the UFC will easily do more ppv buys than boxing as a whole once again. It’s a laughable joke to even compare the two sports because mma is so much more popular. Bellator beats Top Rank, GB ratings, let’s not even talk about how much better UFC numbers are than boxing. HBO and Showtime are close to getting rid of boxing all together. As a last ditch effort Top Rank signed a terrible deal with ESPN that is a recipe for disaster like PBC was and imbeciles like Wil(Nostradumbass) and FF (BWW’s finest) do everything they can to spin reality.

Your sport has basically been thrown off premium channels, they have no more ppv stars and their sport is on life support in the US. It’s laughable how delusional you two are.

oh yea the sport and dynasty boxing that the UFC girls said would be done is shining again. News flash to the 12 year old idiots who have no experience with how boxing works and has worked for 100 years. it ebbs and flows Boxing isn’t going anywhere, where is the UFC? bahahahahahhaihahahah

Got something to say?
