Bloody Elbow reports that the UFC 200 broadcast will promote WWE because of the company’s deal with the WWE for allowing Brock Lesnar to fight on the card.
Lesnar was granted a “one-off” fight for UFC 200 from the WWE. However, the publicly traded Stamford, Connecticut company made it clear that it would not be actively promoting the UFC fight this Saturday on any of its platforms.
Indirectly, the WWE has taken advantage of the Lesnar notoriety as it announced his opponent for the WWE’s Summerslam next month this week. It also revealed that Lesnar would be on the cover of the WWE’s newest video game. However, if you look at its official twitter account, there has not been an overt push for tonight’s UFC event.
On the other hand, the UFC has promoted Lesnar as a WWE superstar and it sounds like the WWE will be talked about on tonight’s UFC 200 broadcast.
Payout Perspective:
Based on what we know, it appears that this deal is one-sided from the standpoint that the WWE is not promoting the UFC or UFC 200 on its avenues of promotion while the UFC has and will promote the WWE for Lesnar’s appearance Saturday. The UFC should benefit from Lesnar being on the card Saturday especially since the debacle that was Jon Jones this week. While he has not been in the Octagon in 5 years, it’s clear one of the main fighters driving this card is Lesnar. The WWE knows this and has brokered a deal which should help its company while not having to do much to promote the UFC. Of course, it is granting them access to Brock Lesnar which is a big thing.
