The UFC announced Thursday night that Anderson Silva will face Daniel Cormier in a 3 round fight at UFC 200. Silva steps in for Jon Jones who was removed due to a potential UFC Anti-Doping Policy Violation.
Silva was scheduled to do an autograph signing in town this week but that was cancelled prior to the news of Jones’ drug test. Silva takes the fight with just 2 days notice.
Cormier was distraught about losing the Jones fight but now gets one of the greatest in the sport. However, Silva comes off a February loss to Michael Bisping and was removed from UFC 198 and a fight with Uriah Hall due to injury.
Payout Perspective:
Silva’s addition after Jones’ removal will help bolster the card that may have seen some fans asking for refunds after the title fight fell. But, Silva is still an attraction that will keep the momentum of Saturday’s card.

UFC 200 is still not sold out. Even upper section seats are still available through ticketmaster.
I don’t think Anderson Silva adds anything to this card. I am a huge Anderson Silva fan and still don’t care about this card. Once McGregor was removed I lost interest in UFC 200. The only other fight that was compelling was Jones vs Cormier and that is gone too. Looking forward to the TUF Finale tonight over UFC 200.

Of what i know in boxing lower card fighter,if the opponent cannot make weight…they can choose not to fight and get paid(who made weight)with what the contract said.the other no pay..and if the overweight opponent wants to proceed he has to negotiate. Exmple..50% of his purse…
So if dw feels so bad for Dc he should compensate him ,fine jones etc….instead of giving an all time great 2days notice…disrespectful

Nice. This is why this sport is so exciting and at the top of combat sports. Where else do you see fighters step up like this?
Fight Fan says
Combo it is actually an insult to the fans that paid for their tix and then end up with a bait and switch. There are still many tix for sale as well.
Combo says
FF, no doubt that fans will be disappointed at the match-up cancellation, understandably.
However, moving ahead, at least a legend of the sport stepped up and Cormier is still fighting… on an already STACKED card (rarely seen, if ever, in other combat sports).
Critics will still watch.
Enjoy.

Ufc cant cancel events because they spend sooooo much on marketing….its a marketing based/dependent promotion….

Jesus, just saw the 202 card (McGregor – Diaz 2)!
Stacked.
UFC simply puts on superior cards.
Hell, even the prelims are popular enough to be televised.
MMA is a better product.
Not impressed says
Combo repeats that mantra every time the UFC disappoints.
The 202 card will probably suck. Nate will submit McGregor again (let’s face it, Nate is bigger, stronger and more skilled) and all the other fights will be mostly overlooked since McGregor is the only fighter people care about. The fight will draw about 2 million viewers, mostly Irish fanboys of McGregor.
Since the Fertittas are business people (first and foremost) they probably know the UFC is going downhill and have decided to abandon the sinking ship.
Boxing may be unpopular today, but it can easily survive without resorting to so many publicity stunts like the UFC does. WSOF is basically the UFC without all the marketing gimmicks.
