Jon Jones stopped for alleged drag racing

March 28, 2016

TMZ first reported that Jon Jones was cited for drag racing and 4 other moving violations on March 24th according to Albuquerque police.  TMZ obtained the video of Jones being stopped by the police.  It was quite clear from the video that Jones was agitated by the police questioning.

Jones appeared on The MMA Hour to give his side of the story.  He became mad with the traffic stop after he learned he was being cited for drag racing.  Jones adamantly denied the accusation.  In the video, he called the police officer a “pig.”

This is just the latest in a series of moving violations involving Jones.

Payout Perspective:

One has to wonder why the UFC has not paid (or maybe they did) for a car service up until Jones’ fight.  As the facts come out, perhaps we may discover that the police officer was overzealous in stopping Jones.  Or, it could be Jones making another poor decision.  Whatever it may be, it’s another PR issue that the Jones team and the UFC must address.  The traffic stop and subsequent violations do not appear to be nothing more than that but I would assume that the UFC is keeping an eye on Jones until April 23rd.

He was wrong for talking back to the cop but that cop was obviously being an ass and the charges will probably be drop.

If jones didn’t have a past history of poor driving and a bad attitude i might think different. This guy is a loose canon and the ufc is playing with fire by having him around.

That cop is a smug asshole. But aren’t they all? You just have to deal with it. There’s no need to debate with the guy. Beat it in court.

He is not as bad as Adrian Broner and even his own brother.

  5. fight fan on March 29th, 2016 11:16 AM

They are both bad for both sports

Yea except for boxing moves on with Broner or without Broner.
The UFC was banking on Jones after McCraiger and the girl lost.
Now thats 3 stars gone. Then add the rest.
Cain lost, and no one knows Werdum.
Weidman lost to somebody. Silva lost.
I can’t really name any of their champions besides like two, maybe not even two.
UFC has no bankable stars at this moment.

    Very true greatest good points

Dw sales pitch to investors or buyers…but but but cm punk will destroy all ppv records…gsp will be back….theres beef bet jones and lidell hahahaha…oh and vanzant would win dwts.

  9. d on March 29th, 2016 7:45 PM

Hahaha. Boxing moves on with or without Broner because Broner is garbage.

The UFC moves on with or without Jones because mma is more popular than boxing is and can sell with several big named draws. The same can not be said if the reverse happened and Canelo was in a similar situation.

“UFC has no bankable stars at this moment.”

You are totally delusional. They will outdraw boxing at least 2x over, and likely 3x this year. I doubt any boxing ppv even hits 1m this year, while the UFC will have at least 3 fights do 1m+ ppv buys.

If Jones is off the card who does Cormier fight? Or does he even fight at all? His last fight against Gustfsson did 250k. Hes not a draw.

Its not about ppvs, because boxing has many global ppvs that you aren’t even aware of.
The UFC has never out drawn boxing. Ever.
Boxings a global sport. UFC is a niche company.
Mayweather making $300M in a year proves that.
More revenue, more viewership, bigger payouts, bigger stages.

  11. d on March 30th, 2016 5:47 AM

250k buys is better than 99.9% of boxers can draw. Hahahaha.

Boxing has no global ppvs that are relevant. The fight of the century in the UK makes Cormier ppv money.

The UFC outdraws boxing every year. This time they will do it 2-3x over.

Boxing is niche sport as is mma, however mma is thriving while boxing is in the gutter.

Mayweather never made anywhere near 300m in a year, the UFC makes more money than every boxing promotion combined. More revenue in mma, bigger stars, bigger audience, growing audience, coveted demo, ppv dominance, etc, etc, etc.

Boxing fans are struggling and desperate.

How’s that loan coming along? Lol time to sell to the Chinese

  13. d on March 30th, 2016 7:33 AM

The loan coming along??? The UFC makes more money than every single boxing promotion combined. They’ve netted well over a billion. That lone is not a big deal to them. They grossed 600m last year alone.

If the UFC did want to sell, the rumored deal was listed at 6b, how much do you think a deal for PBC and their jumbotron would be worth?? Maybe a cool nickel. Hahaha.

  14. d on March 30th, 2016 7:33 AM

    *loan*

  15. The Greatest on March 30th, 2016 8:33 AM

Anthony Joshua vs Dillian Whyte did 450k ppvs in the U.K.

BOXING IS THE PAST PRESENT AND FUTURE

    I AM KING

  16. d on March 30th, 2016 9:24 AM

They didn’t, you just made that up.

Also, if they did hit 450k buys(which they didn’t), that is less than what Cormier did against Gustafsson in terms of revenue. Skytv ppvs are less than half of what UFC’s are.

Boxing has lost its market share: ppv in the gutter, tv ratings far below mma including Bellator, gates way down, fleeing the US, promoters going under, old audiences, no young generation following it, etc.

Biggest draws in combat sports: McGregor, Rousey, Jones!!

    You are Pawn!

  17. The Greatest on March 30th, 2016 3:54 PM

Anthony Joshua made $4.5M for that fight.
    Why didn’t Cormier?

  18. d on March 30th, 2016 6:38 PM

Anthony Joshua didn’t make 4.5m for that fight, you just lie all the time.

  19. The Greatest on March 31st, 2016 10:37 AM

    Anthony Joshua vs Charles Martin.
Charles Martin will make $1.08M for the fight while Anthony Joshua is set to make $7M.
Look up there fight purses Einstein.

And this is an up and comer. Not even a champion and he makes more than anybody in the ufc

  20. The Greatest on March 31st, 2016 10:39 AM

AJ made $4.3M for his last fight that did 450k ppvs , which was great since they projected 200k in sales.
His fight with Martin could do 1M in the U.K. but will at least do 650K.

  21. d on March 31st, 2016 4:25 PM

You lie every time you speak. Look up their purses?? Uh, they don’t exist publicly genius. Let me know when someone who has some reliability like an athletic commission releases them.

Your figures about Joshua are pure fiction. His purse was not what you claim nor were his ppv numbers.

His fight in the UK will do less than Demetrious Johnson revenue. Boxing is a joke in comparison to the UFC these days and it is killing you.

Got something to say?
